Can Varun Dhawan mount a comeback?

I thought he gave some really great and earnest performances early on in Badlapur, October and was quite charming in the Dulhaniya movies but perhaps he lost his mojo midway, with Coolie No 1, Kalank and those dance movies.

What does everyone think? Can he do it with Sriram Raghavan's next? I still think he's pretty decent when paired with a good director and I like his energy, which is wholly different from the 2 Ranns.

He is capable of making interesting choices when he isn't doing his father's films and he could potentially have some mass appeal too. In fact I thought he was the only bright spark in Kalank.

Thoughts?

I did not like him earlier. But over the years Varun has improved a lot. He was good in Badlapur.

He does have hits and mass appeal.

If he makes right choices, he can easily bounce back.

As an actor he has improved a lot since his debut. And that is appreciable.

He is good or even great when he stays away from his father's movies 😎

Samantha will bring him back into reckoning. She's going to be his good luck charm. #Citadel

Why not? He meets all the requirements for a Bollywood hero. And golly, he can act too. I don't know if this long break will do him any favor. On one hand it will allow people to forget the disastrous Coolie No.1. On the otherhand audience are fickle. Out of sight out of mind.

I agree that he was quite good in Kalank. But so was Sonakshi and Madhuri. I so loved his love-hate relationship with his mother. Did she abandon him on the streets? Or did she foster him out and he ran away? Anyone know?

He was so adorable in October. He is still young and especially with so many avenues opening up for the actors, all the actors have a better and a fair chance to become successful unlike the previous decades where the talented actors like Priyanshu etc went down because of the lack of work.

Varun has everything to bounce back. He is adorable, decent actor, can improve with proper script and direction. He just needs to choose scripts wisely. He has good fan following among youths and kids. I think it won't be difficult for him. He is far better than the likes of Kartik Aryan.

He was brilliant in Badlapur. But overall he is awful. Even in his daddy's own productions like Coolie No.1 he couldn't manage to make an entertaining film, or give a good performance. October was such a dreadful movie that it's hard to analyse his performance. Even when he tried to do Sui Dhaaga and Kalank, it doesn't quite hit the mark like his contemporaries: Ranveer Singh or Ayushmann Khurrana.

Coolie no.1 is not a film that would work in this era. Varun was also bashed for trying to step into Govinda's shoes.

He may not be as good as Ranbir, Ranveer, Ayushman, Rajlumar as an actor but he has potential to improve if his performance in Badlapur is anything to go by. He can do better if he works harder and chooses better scripts.

May not be but he is very likable and warm on screen. And he looked great with Alia, until Kalank
