Chandni, starring Sridevi, was a huge success, mega-hit, huge overseas success, blockbuster music,a rage, high critical acclaim, celebrated silver jubilee and golden jubilee runs across India. The film made Switzerland popular in India, making it a popular holiday destination for Indians. A trendsetting film, a heroine-oriented movie at the time of hero-dominated multistarrer action films with loud music, bringing back romance and musicals. It revolutionized fashion, making Chandni bangles, salwar-kameez-dupatta and chiffon sarees rage. The film was extremely popular, winning National Award alongwith many other awards and nominations; one of Yash Chopra's best and most favourite films.

Lamhe, again starring Sridevi, like many people believe, was actually not a flop, but an average grosser at the Indian box office. It did tremendous business in cities and towns, which allowed it to break even. It was hugely popular and successful with the classes. Also, it was one of the biggest Indian blockbusters in overseas; high critical appreciation, very popular music and won many awards. Lamhe is the best yrf movie. Yash Chopra himself confessed that Lamhe is his favourite, most loved and most cherished film.

Its not srk, but it is actually Sridevi who saved yrf with a solo blockbuster Chandni, when it was going through a rough patch.

Lulz what? Chopras were millionaires even before SRK entered showbiz. They have always worked with biggest stars and given huge hits with everyone from Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar to Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Sunny Deol etc.

How can anyone ignore classics and hits like Daag, Deewar, Trishul, Kabhi kabhi, Chandni etc?

History of Bollywood predates SRK, FYI.

Kindly check list of films made by Chopras before Darr. They have always been the biggest banner out there and worked with every top star from 1960s itself.

They were millionaires even before 90s and the only banner apart from RK Films to routinely shoot films abroad at expensive locations, made big budget multi starrers.

Some of you are talking as if Yash Chopra was a small time, struggling, cash strapped filmmaker before he worked with SRK. LOL! Nothing like that.

Even his brother BR Chopra was a hit filmmaker and made big budget multi starrers, spent lavishly on his films and TV shows way before SRK grew up.

Chandni was one of biggest hits of its year of release. A total craze. Yet it is called semi hit now. LMAO!

If they had it their way they would call Daag, Deewar, Trishul etc flops also to prove no one knew Yash Chopra before Darr and he was a flop filmmaker before Darr.

YRF was formed in 1970 and delivered some really superhit movies in 1970s and 1980s like Daag, Kabhie Kabhie, Noorie, Silsila, Chandni, and Lamhe.

YRF movies in 2000s like Mujse Dosti Karoge!, Saathiya, Hum Tum, Fanaa, Dhoom, Salam Namaste were hits and none of them had Shahrukh Khan.

People forget that Dharma Productions were not huge at that time. They mostly delivered flops and had only Dostana (Big B and Shatrugan Sinha) as hit. I remember KJo himself said that. It was actually SRK and Kajol who told Karan they will work in his movie if directed one during the shooting of DDLJ. Karan has made Dharma Productions into such a big production house now but back in the days it wasn’t a big or successful one.
