Hi! This is my first post in the forum but I've been watching Anupamaa since Anuj's entry (like a lot of people lol.) I don't know what people are thinking about Vanraj's complete flip in behavior towards Anupamaa in the last week, but I have personally found it a little frustrating for a few reasons, one of them just being that I desperately wanted Vanraj to have a proper, lengthy redemption track paralleling Anupamaa's growth throughout the show. A lot of Vanraj's behavior to me seems like it is due to the way in which he was raised and the society he grew up in. A disruption like Anupamaa separating herself from him could have been just the jolt he (and the rest of the Shah family) needed to question the values and norms he'd lived by all these years, and very slowly, painstakingly, grow to become a man that respects women. Scenes like this should have happened months ago, and definitely either during or before the divorce lmao. I can see how Anupamaa actually moving on with a real, valid love interest might make even a Vanraj on the path of redemption insecure, and be a setback that he has to overcome eventually by encouraging Anupamaa like he did in today's episode. But for me there was still something off, and I think my problem is that for me the person supporting Anupamaa today should have been Toshu.
Toshu, like Vanraaj, has fallen really REALLY low recently and then very quickly been whitewashed in a matter of 2-3 episodes. I still feel uneasy about Vanraj, and think Kavya might have a point: but Toshu, as he said, is still Anupamaa's son and within the context of the Indian family especially that does mean quite a bit. Anupamaa doesn't think Toshu would pick up so she skips over calling him and instead calls Vanraj, but I think that instead, the writers should have done the opposite and had Anupamaa call Toshu as a last resort because she doesn't want to call her ex-husband. Then we would have seen Toshu picking up and hearing his mother basically hysterical on the phone, rushing to the hospital, and taking charge of the situation because none of his anger means anything in the face of his mother's clear distress. Showing Toshu be the one calming her down, talking to doctors, calling the family, bandaging Anupamaa's wound etc would be a really meaningful way to have Toshu earn at least in part his redemption -- it would have still been relatively quick compared to the things he's said recently but Anupamaa's acceptance (after having basically disowned him) would have made a lot more sense. She wouldn't have been in any state to think about what Toshu had done before when Toshu arrived at the hospital, and by the time Anupamaa was more able to think clearly Toshu would have been so helpful and kind (and regretful of his past behavior) that forgiving him would have made sense, especially if he had apologized.
I also think it would have made more sense for Toshu to be the one to give Anupamaa that final push to be with Anuj, because he largely had the same perspective as Vanraj + same horrible comments but where Vanraj had absolutely no right to say anything at all to his ex-wife, I can see why Anupamaa would still want the permission/validation of her children to move on. Toshu seeing over the course of their stay at the hospital Anupamaa's true love for Anuj, and knowing that Anuj was in danger after having defended Anupamaa would let him get to the point where he could feasibly tell Anupamaa that she had done enough for her family and should think about herself. Especially since Anupamaa's main connection to the Shah family is as the childrens' mother, it would be powerful to see Toshu her most "traditional" son realize that he's standing in the way of a beautiful relationship and change because at the end of the day he loves his mother more than he cares about what society says. The change would still be sudden but I think it makes WAY more sense for a son to change almost entirely within a moment because he hears his hysterical mother is at the hospital than for the ex-husband Vanraj to do so.
Anyways I don't know if any of that made sense, but I've been thinking about this the whole last three days and wanted to know what other people thought! I don't know about Vanraj, but I'm cautiously hopefully about Toshu's redemption (though I think he needs to put it way more work) just because Kinjal and Anupamaa deserve better lol. Looking forward regardless for what's next in store for MaAn tomorrow!!
