You seriously think no one knows or respects Robin Williams? Steve Carrell? Peter Sellers? Woody Allen? Bill Murray? Steve Martin? Lucille Ball? There are several dozen others who could be named, and that's just in Hollywood.

Also, unless you're an actor who somehow finds comedy easy and the rest difficult, I think I'll go by what other performers say.

If you're talking about India, most topics are off limits so writers/actors are left with slapstick and buffoonery so that has something to do with why comedians are seen as inferior. Even stand up comedy in India sucks for the most part because of this reason. They have to walk on eggshells.

Charlie Chaplin ne jo kiya hai...dikhta aasan zaroor hai lekin karna qaafi mushkil hai 😆. Zara bhi idhar udhar ho gaya toh bilkul bakwas lagega.

Likhna toh mushkil hai hi lekin jo likha gaya hai wahi vision act mein le aana , timing perfect hona, zaroorat ke hisab se understatement ya hyperbole ko apnana aur switch karna, to be in sync with the writer's imagination..all very hard. You need to have great insight into the human psyche , and if it's physical comedy that you're doing you have to have incredible command over the tiniest muscles of your body to get it right. It can be like bharatanatyam or ballet.
