Dekho - Doodh ke dhule toh nahi hain Bollywood wale 😆 But I do find it unnecessary to create a controversy over weed (which was earlier legal in India) and term the accused as “druggies”.

Kuch aur cocktail of drugs dikhao tab jaake sense banega 😛

It’s the same for alcohol, isn’t it? There will always be people who go to extremes 🤷‍♀️ Hence, the need for regulation and information on safe consumption.

Weed doesn’t deserve this kind of bad rap. As some people explained here, it was legal in India earlier and then parts of the plant were declared illegal to become pally with America.

Legalize it.

I've been to places in the USA where it is completely legal and these places are no less safe than places where it is illegal.

Marijuana is non-habit-forming and doesn't do long-term damage to the body like alcohol or tobacco (pending further studies, making weed illegal has prevented science from legitimately studying its effects closely). Driving/Operating under influence is already illegal everywhere. I don't think marijuana requires special attention.

I would say weed did not their life but was a symptom of the issues that were plaguing their lives. Despite being illegal, weed consumption is quite prolific. There are people who live fully functional lives while consuming weed. Even with hard drugs, most people have the ability to consume responsibly.

Addiction is usually caused by other underlying issues like depression, PTSD etc. Someone who is trying to be high all the time is trying to escape reality. And if drugs are unavailable there are many other things people get addicted to - sex, gambling, shopping, high-risk thrills, shoplifting, cutting, etc.

That is why I say divert money from the war on drugs to mental health resources.

@bold - I am so glad you said this. The way mental health is trivialised in India, it’s terrible. Forget outsiders, but even family does not understand when someone says they are depressed. These people who need help are made fun of, asked to get “serious about life”, “stop with the drama” etc. 🤷‍♀️

If someone dies by suicide, it is never a mental health issue, but something external, often sinister. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to get that a person can be depressed and anxious, and needs help as urgently as you would for a physical injury.

There is a rat race to achieve more, do more, be more that can burden even the most mentally healthy individuals. We fail to pause and contemplate the effect this pressure has on us and those others around us. We fail to take a break and give others a break.

I wish there comes a day when mental health and ways to cope with stress are taught right from school. There needs to be more investment in this to give people the tools to cope with a highly stressful life ❤️ Mental health needs to be talked about and normalised everywhere on priority, especially in a developing nation like India.
