That’s because to a regular reader’s eye, the capital “i” in his name resembles the small “l,” hence making it look and sound “leshan” or “lehsan”. I guess, when they were naming him, no one ever informed his parents that the “i before e, except after c” rule only applies to the English “language,” and not to everything that’s written using the English alphabet. 😆

I wish my English professor could explain the same way 😆
