I don't know the casting grounds... But what must matter to them is how convincing the actor is in that role & whether the chemistry clicks! Fan base is ONLY an added advantage. EK is known for casting newbies & getting the chemistry right. Agar sab producer established actor ko cast karenge, toh naye walo ko mauka kaise milega? Even Shaheer wouldn't make his way up to here if he didn't get a chance. Not that he had a readymade fanbase right from the beginning. Lol
Shaheer hina all these actors were casted opposite newbies, so they made a name for themselves on their own merit. Even in mahabharat inspite of being the weakest link he gained huge popularity not only in India but also in Indonesia, he became more popular than anyone else from the cast. Kuch toh hoga na usme that inspite of performing so badly in mahabharat according to some still he is one of most popular and successful actors. Even shivangi and mohsin for that matter weren't much popular before yrkkh and were relatively newbies of one show old, but they got so much fame because of their talent.
There's a difference between getting popular with their first few shows only where all new actors are casted and getting popular after working with popular actors. Most of Shah's Co actors come under second category where they get some advantage because of his popularity but then a solid fan base is creating solely on their acting capabilities and other things.
