Dev is a flawed character for sure. The traits that made him were best defined by Suhana in S1, where she said he must be like a hero from the movies. He really was this person full of love, sometimes irrationally angry, a good son, and was trying to make sense of how Sona positively changed his life. The audience felt the pain he underwent during the breakup, even though he was wrong, you could see that he really suffered during that time. The old Dev doted on his family and even though he may have looked for temporary solutions, his intentions are almost always pure. Was he perfect, no, but he tried and that was good enough.
I wish the writers had bought this aspect to the forth, that Devs mental health is suffering because he keeps himself last. That leading to distance in the marriage would have made for a more believable story. Since this is most likely the last season of this show, closing long-standing issues in the counseling like Ishwari being the third wheel in the marriage could have been undertaken.
Dev, according to me, has suffered the most butchering in this season at the hands of these inadequate writers.
Sonakshi makes extraordinary efforts to please Devs family, sometimes letting go of her own personality traits. Dev is the love of her life and she proves it very often. This need to please Ishwari to remain Devs beloved takes a toll on Sona. This could present itself as a legitimate cause of problems in the relationship.
This Sona is crying and not really handling her problems. One trait which defined her was the ability to solve her own problems, which is largely missing this season.
Sona has suffered too at the hands of these writers and that remains a grouse for me. She really is an exemplary woman and deserved better writers.
Devakshi were the core of the show in S1. People today are Team Sona or Dev, but it is Team Devakshi that has taken the brunt of this brainless writing. How they celebrated their joyous times, how heartbroken they were during the breakup and their lovely journey of falling in love with each other, made the show.
Wish the writers really focused on the trials and tribulations of Devakshi. Use Ishwari and Neha as characters judiciously to show the journey of Dev and Sona, together as a team. At least for wrapping up the show, hope the writers don’t use the typical ITV tropes and use some of their brains. Even fan ideas are better and wholesome. I can only wish for a graceful departure and a good closure to these characters once loved dearly.
