But still no proof about whether Christianity or Bible treats or doesn't treat women as property. Right? Afaik Christianity is beautiful.

"And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins." 22.16

If a man marries, then decides that he hates his wife, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they were married. If her father can't produce the "tokens of her virginity" (bloody sheets), then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. 22:13-21

If a betrothed virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough, then "the men of the city shall stone her to death." 22:23-24

If you see a pretty woman among the captives and would like her for a wife, then just bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can "let her go." 21:11-14

So yes, kanya means daughter and kumari means virgin.

We are not talking about what these words came to mean in Shudh Bengali because each region has it’s own interpretation and usage of the words and language.

In Sanskrit though:

Kumari- young girl

Kumar-young boy

Kaumarya- youth

Putra- son

Putri- daughter

Kanya- Virgin/pure (all the other derived synonyms are all because of this core meaning)

You can refer to any Sanskrit professor/ text, these are the meanings you will get.

Where is it said that kaumarya means youth? Everywhere I read, it meant virginity.

Are these from the old testament or the new testament? What do the numbers in the end indicate? You have to mention the chapters and the testament for a proper quote from the bible.

When citing a passage of bible, include the abbreviated name of the book, the chapter number, and the verse number—never a page number. Chapter and verse are separated by a colon. example: John 3:16

Na re baba. Kaumarya means youth. You don’t need to go far. Just read Bhagawad Geeta where ‘Kaumarya’ was cited multiple times. You will get the meaning apne aap.

And quite agree on the last line. Every religion in this world has been prejudiced against women to varying degrees. My religion (Hinduism) is no different

Recently my father in law passed away, and we did Garuda Puran paath and it was so very evident how they are pushing for a male child, because without a male child your chances of passing through to the next world or attainn moksha are very very low. Even a stranger or distant relative is preferred to do your last rites as long as they are male, even if the deceased has a daughter. It was infuriating to listen to it, esp because my father in laws last rites were done his 2 daughters. My wife and sister in law were quite disgusted by the whole thing, and we vowed to never do this garuda puran recital again.

Same! I read it out of curiosity and was creeped out by the pushing for the male child so much and the way it literally calls those who don’t have a male child are sinners. There was one chapter dedicated to how the male child will get the ultimate moksha by doing the final rites of his mother and father at the same time.

I think the member has quoted Hebrew Bible which is for Jews. So Christianity is still safe and beautiful. Women are respected and not treated as a property according to Christianity, unlike Hinduism and Islam.

Please do say which book in the Bible. Because these are not from the gospels. 100%. Jesus Christ actually said there is no difference between man and woman before God. His interaction with women maligned as prostitutes is beautiful to read.

But sadly, those 4 gospels, covering the 3 active years of Christ's life, are the only place in the Bible which has no misogyny.

Misogyny restarts in the books after his death

Something fishy up with the Youtube ad posted on 17 Sep. Today, after 3 days, the no. of likes has increased from around 900 to 2000 in a matter of hours. Who is going to like (or dislike) an old ad in such numbers?
