I'd jump in here and add that I've met some of the most wonderful people here on IF and later gone on to become really close friends in my personal life too, without ever actually meeting them in person.
I agree, we now live in a world where we often find a sense of comfort in anonymity. It's both a blessing and a curse I'd say. I like how it sets me free in a way real life social interactions don't (at least not as much).
