He told Mahi that ‘Mere Marne ki khabar?

Then he told Amma that ‘Aapne kaise maanliya ke mai marchuka hu’?

so it’s obvious he didn’t fake his death, he just used a metaphor when he said that uski samne maardiya matlab he killed his identity not faked or anything
