Part 3 and I am utterly exhausted! Classes ne toh band baja di hai. 2 hafte huye nahin aur papers due dates have begun. Lekin, that means I'm procrastinating more than ever which leads to... ta-da!!! More writing per capita post. So yeh raha part 3, jahan par dimaag ka istamaal bharpoor kiya jaayega 😆 Enjoy!!

---------------------------------

Kartik skidded to a halt, barely managing to catch himself flying off the last step “Bhai! Taiji! Savitri taiji ko kuch toh pata hoga ki Ishqi kahan hai.”

“Unhe kaise pata hoga Kartik? Use your brain!”

“Bhai, brain toh aapka kaam nahin kar raha hai! Did you forget abhi mummy ne andar kya kaha? Taiji pehle dadi se deal kar chuki hai. She knows how dadi works! Dadi ka yeh jo ganster dadi wala role hai na, who taiji dekh chuki hain. Aur shayad Ishqi bhi.” Kartik explained exasperatedly.

“You know what Kartik? It's possible. Chal. Tu phone laga, main gaadi nikaalta hun. Aaj Ishqi ko meri wajah se kuch ho gay ana, toh main…” he trailed off

“Bhai please. Focus. Main Taiji se baat karta hoon. You need to stay calm.” He pacified.

A part of him wished that he could fast-forward time so he wouldn’t have to waste it on mundane things like driving. A smaller part of him wished that he could rewind time and stop everything from happening. But he could do neither. All he could do now, was try. Screeching to a halt next to where Kartik was looking worriedly at his phone, repeatedly bring it to his ear and jerking it away to jab angrily at it, he pressed the horn

Honk honk.

Desperation was tearing through him. He had to find her today. He simply had to. Through the drive, Kartik’s fingers were flying across his screen, with an occasional curse slipping out of his mouth. The drive that should have taken more than an hour was covered in only half the time, owing to at least thirty broken traffic rules.

Who cared about the rules of the road when his wife was in danger?

Seeing his mother’s house come into view, his foot depressed on the gas and he felt himself slam back into the seat. Sliding his foot to the brake, he stepped hard and brought them to a loud halt. Beside him, Kartik’s white-knuckled grip on the dashboard was slowly coming loose. “Bhai, agli baar aise drive karna ho na, toh bata dena. Main taxi le lunga.” He panted out.

Ahaan didn’t bother with a reply. He pushed the car door open and sprinted up the four steps to the house. Without waiting to knock, he threw the doors open and yelled “MS. SAVITRI! MS. SAVITRI!”

On hearing no answer to his query, he tried again, “MAA! AAP KAHAN HO?” A noise to his left brought his attention to the man standing there. Suraj.

“Maa kahan hai?” He asked franticly, rushing towards him.

“Who toh upar hai Ahaan. Lekin tum yahan? Iss haalat mein? What’s wrong? Kuch hua hai kya?” Suraj was starting to worry.

“Ahaan?” he heard called out from the base of the stairs. In the time it had taken him to speak to Suraj, his mom had made her way down to the foyer. “Ahaan, beta, kya hua? Tum yahan…? Sab theek toh hai na? Sonu toh-?”

He could sense her growing panic and something warm welled in his heart at the care in her tone for his sister. Ishqi was right. “Maa, Sonu is fine. Lekin Ishqi kahan hai? Kartik ne aapko phone karke bataya toh hoga! Where’s is she? Dadi use kahan leja sakti hain?”

“What do you mean Ishqi kahan hai? Usko toh apni maasi keh ghar par hona chahiye tha! Aur uss press conference mein. What do YOU MEAN KI WHO KAHAN HAI?” Her voice increased in volume until the panic in her eyes was being conveyed via loudness and high pitch.

Kartik skidded into the room at the end of her sentence and cringed slightly at the volume. He took tentative steps towards the duo and gently pulled to seat her on the couch behind her. “Bhai aap bhi baitho. Main batata hoon.” Turning his head to his aunt, he began narrating the day’s events to her, watching the horror grow on her face and tears begin to gather in her eyes.

Savitri cupped a hand on Kartik’s cheek in gentle thanks and turned to her son to scrutinize him. Her gaze was beginning to make him uncomfortable as if he’d been pulled into the principal’s office for a crime he hadn’t committed. Except he had.

“Mujhe tumse yeh ummeed nahin thi Ahaan. Mujhe laga tha, ki shaadi ke baad toh tum Ishqi pe bharosa karoge aur usse har baat ke liye proof ki koyi expectation nahin rakhoge. Lekin tumne mujhe galat saabit kar diya. Bata diya ki Ishqi chahe jitna bhi koshish kar le, woh tumse tumhaari dadi ki sikhaayi hui kadhwaahat aur logic nahin nikaal paayegi.” She wiped the tears that had trailed down her face and spoke again, this time with the same steely voice he had once heard from Ishqi, 7 months ago, on the day of her wedding. “Abhi, we’re going to focus on finding Ishqi. Uske baad discuss karenge ki tum dono ka Rishta kya tha, kya hai, aur kaha jaayega iske baad. Mujhe pata hai mummyji use kahan lekar gayi hongi.”

Without waiting for either of the three males, she collected herself and strode towards the door, intent on getting her daughter-in-law back. Once again, Durga devi had played the long game, but this time, she had bitten off more than she could chew.

Savitri was done playing games.

As she moved to seat herself in the driver’s seat, her son’s hand shot out to stop her. She gazed at him questioningly and the reply came “Main drive karta hoon. Aap baithiye.” She seemed to stare at him for an eternity, while she gazed searchingly at his face. She must have found what she was looking for as she nodded acquiescingly and moved to seat herself in the passenger seat, with Kartik and Suraj having already claimed the back.

As they began their rushed drive towards the destination that his mother had fed into the GPS, Ahaan asked his mother the questions that had been burning his mind since he had overheard Ishqi’s conversation. “Maa maine…I mean Ishqi baat kar rahi thi massi se aur main…” he trailed off, not knowing how to bring up the topic of his mother’s abuse in front of her and Kartik.

His mother stopped him “Let me guess, tum Ishqi se baat karne gaye the, lekin jhagad ke aa gaye. Aur phir tumne uski baat sunli aur mummyji ka thoda sach tumhare saamne aa gaya. Ab tum sab sahi karna chahte ho.” He nodded, jaw tightening at the thought of their argument, before releasing in surprise at how much his mother had guessed.

Savitri chuckled lightly at his gobsmacked expression and continued, “Tum mere bete ho Ahaan. Tumhari dadi tumhe kitna bhi manipulate kar le aur tum mein kitna zeher bhar de, lekin main tumhari maa hun. Aur waise bhi, Ishqi ne mujhe tumhari saari aadatein aur kartootein bataayi hain. Unka hisaab toh main baad mein karungi” she lightly twisted his ear from where she was seated. Tight enough to hurt but lightly that it wouldn’t hinder his driving.

Her voice then grew distant as she recounted days past, “Tum basics jaante ho. Tumhare papa mujhe maarte the. Unhe sharaab ki latt thi, aur mummyji ko yeh pata tha. Lekin unhone kuch nahin kiya. Kisi ne kuch nahin kiya. Aur jis din unhone tum dono par haath uthaya, bas uss hi din maine yeh faisla le liya. Jab baat meri thi, toh main sab kuch seh leti. Par jab baat mere bacchon par aayi, aur phir bhi mummy-ji ne kuch nahin kiya, tab meri patience khatam ho gayi.”

“Dharya. Patni mein dharti jitna dharya hona chahiye…Aurat toh aisi baatien bhi bardasht kar leti hai jo tolerate nahin karni chahiye.”

Maa sabkuch humaare liye tolerate karti rahi. Lekin jab limit cross ho gayi…

“Limit hai. Har cheez ki limit hai…jab uska dharya apni seema, apni limit paar karne lagta hai, toh woh, uss seema Rekha ko aura age badha deti hai…Purush ladkar jeet-ta hai, naari sehkar jeeti-ti hai”

“Main toh tum dono ko lekar us hi waqt uss ghar se jaana chahti thi, lekin Suraj ji ne mujhe bola ki pehle divorce le lun, aur uske baad custody ke liye file karun. Phir tum dono ko legally mujhse Savitri devi nahin le sakti thi. Lekin uske baad mummyji ne mujhe mental asylum bhej diya aur main wahan se kabhi nikal hi nahin paayi.” She noticed his horror stricken face at her description of what she had faced. Savitri reached out a gentle hand to his shoulder and squeezed, hoping to pass some reassurance of her safety.

She then let out a wet chuckle, “Maine Ishqi ko bola tha, ki mere liye mummyji ke khilaaf jaakar apni shaadi ko khatre mein na daale. I'm not worth her life or your marriage. Par tumhari biwi toh tumse bhi ziddi hai. Ek baar mummyji ka raaz kholne ki thaan lee, toh thaan li, chahe kuch bhi sacrifice karna pade.” Her voice grew fond towards the end of her sentence, and she gave a small smile.

As the navigation system warned them of their approaching destination, she knew he could finally see it drawing near and his eyes widened as he recognized the building. The same building his mother had just mentioned she had been kept for the past 20 years and tortured. He glanced at her in questioning disbelief.

Savitri nodded, giving him the confirmation needed. This was where his Ishqi was.

He would take this building apart brick by brick to find her.

Nobody was allowed to hurt her. Not on his watch

Arrey yaar koi baat nahi! Mujhe laga ki shayad tags theek se work nahin kar rahe, toh bata hi deti hun! No worries!

Ab 2-3 signals toh tod hi sakte hain na! Police bhi kya kahegi. Afterall, woh THE Ahaan Veer Malhotra hai 😆😆

I want to give Kartik & Savvy a more important role in their story tbh. They're the main pillars of this relationship other than these 2.

Hogi, boriyat bhi hogi. Classes hai hi aisi cheez. Filhaal 2 din tak no classes because holiday weekend hai, toh writing full tashan mein chalu hai. Wednesday ko confirm naya update aayega 👍🏼

Just because mujhe coffee-omelet (or other variations of cravings) nahin khaana hai, isliye, chapter 4 thoda jaldi haazir hai.

-------------------------------------------

As he jerked the wheel right to turn the car into the parking lot, Kartik’s voice finally piped up from the back seat “Bhai, aap Bhabhi ko dhoondo. Main car park karta hoon. Aap aur taiji jaiye.”

God bless Kartik. He knew how stressful this was and instead of asking questions about everything he’d just heard; he was just focused on finding Ishqi. This boy would be getting the biggest present from the two of them as soon as he could manage it. If they remained “them”

“Haan Ahaan beta. Tum aur Savitri ji andar jao. Tab tak Kartik car park karega aur mai police ko call karta hoon. If nothing else works, we can threaten them with legal action if they refuse to confess. Don’t worry about the legalities, I can take care of that.” There wasn’t much Sooraj could do to help Ahaan. It wasn’t his place. At least, not until the entire truth was outed. But legal matters were his forte, and he sure as hell could fight on that front.

While he didn’t say it now, he knew that he would have to eventually thank this man who had supported his family behind the scenes for more than two decades.

Ahaan owed a lot to Sooraj Kapoor.

The car coming to a stop with breaks squealing out their protest, Savitri and he leapt out of their seats and rushed up the steps without looking back. Ishqi was here and they were going to get her.

“Ishqi Ahaan Veer Malhotra. My wife. She should be here.” He gasped out to the front desk attendant.

The man clicked on his keyboard for a few seconds, before turning his eyes up to the visitors. “I’m sorry. Yeh naam ki koi patient yahan register nahin hui hai.” Ahaan could see that this man really believed the words he was saying. She wasn’t in the system. But if she hadn’t been registered here, then where…?

“Ahaan! Mummyji usko register thodi karwaaengi!” She turned to the man and asked “Aaj ya kal mein, koi 24-25 saal ki ladki ka emergency case aaya hai? Her doctor would be Dr. Verma. Usne pink color ka dupatta pehna hoga aur blue color ka suit”

Recognition dawned in his eyes, “Haan maam, aisa ek case kal shaam ko aaya toh tha. Dr. Verma said ki forms abhi ban rahe hain. Emergency case hai toh seedha treatment ke liye lekar chale gaye”

Oh thank god. “What room?”

“Sorry sir, aapko wait karna hoga. Doctor ki go-ahead ke bagair, I cannot let you go in. Treatment abhi jaari hai.” The attendant replied morosely.

Ahaan’s hands flew across the table to paw at the man’s collar. Bringing him as close as possible with the barrier between them, he spoke in a low voice. “Listen to me. That’s my wife in there. Uska treatment bina uske, uski massi ya meri consent ke kiya ja raha hai. Now, before I slap a lawsuit the likes of which this hospital has never seen, you will take me to her room. Now.” he ground the last word out, before shoving the man away from himself violently.

Seeing the terror rising in the man’s eyes at the mention of the lawsuit, a sense of malice rose in Ahaan. Good. They deserve that and more. The man gestured to the corridor on his right, “Iss side sir. Sorry sir, Dr. Verma ne humein bola tha ki this is an emergency case aur unhe disturb na karein. Warna patient ki jaan ko khatra ho sakta hai.”

Savitri was barely holding onto her own anger, seeing Ahaan’s outburst just a second ago. The attendant’s statement severely tested that control. “Khatra toh abhi unke license aur iss hospital ko hoga. Pehle mujhe 20 saal tak yahan rakha without my consent aur ab meri bahu ko. Main chodungi nahin tum sabko.”

Rushing along the narrow path, passing rooms at an almost inhuman speed, they came to a halt in front of the last door. “Sir aapko aapki wife iss room mein milegi. Sorry again sir.”

Knowing the man in front of him wasn’t at fault, Ahaan exercised his legendary control again and said from behind clenched teeth, “Get out. Tumse meri koi dushmani nahin hai. Get out aur kahin aur naukri dhoondho. Yahan rahe, toh iss hospital ke saath doob jaaoge. Leave.”

Pushing his way into the room, he froze at the set-up before him. Stood there, in front of the bed, was his dadi.

Shreemati Durga Devi.

His and Sonu’s savior.

The woman who had sacrificed everything in her life for him and his sister.

About to take his wife away from him forever.

Savitri had no such hesitation upon seeing the woman with a needle in her hand about to descend into Ishqi’s arm. She had seen what her mother-in-law was capable of, and she wouldn’t let that happen to Ishqi. Ahaan may have been in shock, but she knew this dance intricately. She rushed forward to grab the syringe from her mother-in-law’s hands, and succeeded, the element of surprise lending her the advantage.

His mother’s actions broke his stupor and finally registering the needle clattering across the floor, he turned disbelieving eyes towards the woman who had been his whole world until that week, before moving them slowly to rove across Ishqi’s prone form on the bed.

She’d done so much. And yet…

She always ended up in this position. Every time, because of him. A month ago, it was because he hadn’t listened to her, and now again, the same reason was the cause.

This was no time to dawdle. He shifted towards the doctor in the room, fury evident in his voice. “Dr. Verma. Hum pehle bhi mil chuke hain. Aapne tab mujhe jhoot bola tha. Lekin aaj sach bolna padega. There is a very convenient lawsuit waiting to happen as soon as you step out of this room. You will tell me everything you have done to my wife and then you will walk out of this room, and never look back. You will walk into the waiting room and look for Mr. Sooraj Kapoor. When you see him, you will tell him that you did this all, and then turn yourself over to the police that is waiting. And if I find out that you tried to run, you will wish that you had turned yourself over to the police. Because I will go to the ends of the earth to find you and end you. Is that understood?” He spoke slowly and deliberately, pausing after each sentence to make sure he received acknowledgment for it before moving on to the next.

This was the end of his limit. Of his dharya. He was done playing games.

He shoved the man out into the corridor before gesturing for the staff to leave as well. Sticking his head out behind them, he shouted “Kartik! KARTIK!!” His brother rounded the corner and ran towards him rapidly.

Ahaan rushed his words out, “Ishqi ko utha aur gaadi mein lekar jaa. Main aata hun.”

“Lekin bhai aap…?”

Glancing at his dadi, Ahaan asserted his decision again, “Tu jaa. Tu Ishqi ko laker jaa. Aur sun, maa ko bhi saath le ja. Aur yahan se seedha Dr. Mehta ke paas jaana. Kahin rukna nahin aur Ishqi ko ek second ke liye bhi akela nahin chodna. Main yahan par sab wrap up karke aata hun.”

Kartik rushed to the best and swept Ishqi into his arms, before turning right back around and departing through the door his taiji had kept propped.

Ahaan turned to his mother as she turned to go after her nephew, “Maa, aap jaate huye inspector ko andar bhej dengi?”

She nodded somberly, and with one last loathing look at her mother-in-law, she too turned and left. Seeing dadi trying to follow the duo through the slowly closing door, Ahaan threw his arm out to block the doorway. “Aap kahan jaa rahe ho dadi?”

------------------------------------------

Chapter 4 done. Got the last 900 words done in 45 mins I wanna say. And part 5 ke liye thoda sa wait hoga, because agle 4 din sirf training hi training hai. Weekend pe try maarungi writing ka. Tab tak ke liye, enjoy!

Yaay ab mai ye bahana phirse use kar sakti hun🤣🤣

Kartik aur Savvy to humesha ki tarah best hai, bahut hi zyada achhe

Bechara receptionist, bura lag raha hai mujhe uske liye. Achha hua bhaag gaya🤣🤣

Suraj Kapoor finally apne lawyer profession ka istemaal kar rahe hai😆

Ahaan ki dhamkiyaan🥳👏

Bechara doctor kuch bol hi nahi paya😆

Daadi k wickets ab udte huye dikh rahe hai mujhe😆

The woman who had sacrificed everything in her life for him and his sister.

About to take his wife away from him forever.

I finally ready part 2 today and my God what a treat it was!smiley42

I could literally visualise it all happening before my eyes. From Ahaan's worry, to Chachi's determination to speak up, to Chachi's hesitance, to Karthik's support, to Sonu's broken heart, to Dadi's nervousness to Ahaan's anger.

Hayye tumhara Ahaan toh bohot clever nikla! smiley41

But you listen to me. Agar Ishqi ko kuch ho gaya na, toh main aapko kabhi maaf nahi karunga. Aaj tak jitna pyaar use kiya hai, utni hi nafrat aapse karunga. I’m going to look for her. And she better be alright. My absolute favourite from Part 2. This was so kept in tune with Ahaan's character! And Aaj tak jitna pyaar usse kiya hai, utni hi nafrat aapse karunga. Damn the goosebumps!

Part 3:

Sorry yaar, tag kiya aur dekha nahi. My notifs get too clogged that I end up leaving it.😆

Yaar iske baare mein kya batau? Just perfect as usual! Haaye, Ahaan's worry and Savitri's determination was so excellently penned out!

Hayee mera smart Karthik! Dil le lo.😳

A part of him wanted to fast forward time, while another wanted to rewind back. Perfectly describes us humans. When caught in a web of trouble and problems, one would want to either get over and done with it so that the problem remains a distant memory, or go back in time to erase their actions and mistakes that may have lead to the trouble. I absolutely loved this.❤️

Awwh Karthik's slight humour!😆 (true to his character.)

From Ms Savitri to Ma! He called her ma upon hearing no response. Change and evolve when you see no results reaping. Perhaps the reason for your unsuccessful attempt lies in your small mistake.

Savitri's worry for Ishqi was written so well! 👏

I really wanted Savitri to tell Ahaan how disappointed she was in him in the show too! Glad you brought it out here.😳

She was done playing games indeed! Dadi will have to encounter some Savvy-action!😎

The flashback! The most perfect one for such a situation.

He would take this building apart brick by brick to find her.

Nobody was allowed to hurt her. Not on his watch Yebooo!

Read two no-IshqAan parts but you've still maintained the suspense and excitement! Too good yaar!❤️

Part 4:

Yaar mujhe Karthik ko tight si jhappi deni hai!!🤗❤️

If they remained “them” This question hit harder than a truck.

Damn Ahaan terrorised that guy!🤣 I know bechare ne kuch nahi Kiya lekin phir bhi naach rahi hoon.😆

Savitri ki Savvy avatar ki jai ho!

I love how despite his anger at the hospital he managed to remain calm for the receptionist because he wasn't at fault.

Durga Devi may have sacrificed lots in life for Ahaan but was going to sacrifise Ahaan's life itself.

She always ended up in this position. Every time, because of him. A month ago, it was because he hadn’t listened to her, and now again, the same reason was the cause. 💔

And if I find out that you tried to run, you will wish that you had turned yourself over to the police. Because I will go to the ends of the earth to find you and end you. Is that understood? Girl how do you do that!? You should've been the writer of the show! 😭

Both mum and son were playing games.😎

Durga Devi has to now face the wrath of Ishqi's husband AVM. Oh God the excitement!!

Oh I could imagine Ahaan's voice filled with anger and loath.

Aashi sachme chha gayi tum!

Read all three parts in one go and I'm gobsmacked by your writing.

My greedy ass wants one at the soonest!😳

Part 2:

@bold: I have no idea where I came up with this gem, but it definitely went into my vault of sentence bank! I pulled this out of...somewhere (you can probs guess 😆)

Part 3:

Koi baat nahin yaar! Agli baar se dm kar dungi!

Kartik toh sabki jaan hai, Ishqqan ka Godfather hai. usko toh saari jhappiyan, pappiyan milni chahiye 😆❤️

@bold: So perfectly put! You got it perfectly!!

There was so much missing from the show for me, hence- fanfiction. Tada! (jazz hands)

Woh flashback was literally made for this Savitri set-up and I'm so upset that the show didn't get to use the golden opportunity. Bakwaas Sony 😡

Part 4:

I felt like they were a bit too secure ki Ishqi would come back to Ahaan after everything that happened, so a bit of ambiguity was needed. After everything that happened, there probably were a lot of things that needed to be aired out and I have a pretty good plan of how I want to do that 😏There is no way everything would have been just la-di-da that fast

Bechare reception waale ki kya galti hai 😂 Usko main nahin pitwaaungi. In a way, this is the Ishqi effect - she's tempered him a lot and forces him to think before acting (at least that's how I intended it to be- did it get through?)

@bold: koi dega kya mujhe naukri? I'll write for S2 😆😆

Dadi has never faced AVM, so that's definitely an aspect that I'm looking forward to playing with, mazaa aayega 😏 It's a very blank canvas and the dude can be extremely intense when he wants to be. It'll be extremely fun to see that 400-watt intensity turned on dadi 😏😏

I'm so glad you liked it! Chal, is weekend (ya pehle) part 5 daalungi, aur tumhe dm karungi iss baar, so that it doesn't get lost 😆

Part 5 is here! Thoda short, but it needed to be to get the point across!! Toh jaldi jaldi padho aur batao! 🤗

-------------------------------------------------

“Ahaan beta – Ishqi ko humari zaroora-” she stammered out

“Meri patni ko aapki zaroorat nahi hai. Uske saath uska bhai hai aur uski saas hai. Woh usko kuch nahin hone denge.” His face shifted then, wearing a mask of calm joviality as he gripped her arm and guided her to a nearby chair.

It was time to get some answers. For their family. For his mother. For Sonu. For Ishqi.

“Chaliye na dadi. Baat kartein hain” he stated in a forced jaunty tone. He knew the smile that had spread on his face probably looked manic, but it was only right that the turmoil inside him reflected on his face.

The mounting terror was starting to reflect on her face now.

Good.

“Ahaan puttar. Tujhe abhi Ishqi ke saath jaana chahiye. Baad mein ghar pe baithkar baat karenge” there was audible tremor in her words now.

Ahaan slowly leaned back and balanced his frame against the bed, facing her directly. This was the only way anything was going to get resolved; if he faced it head on. If his mom and Ishqi could go through torture for him, it was his responsibility to finish what they started.

“Baatein toh hoti rahengi Dadi. Aap bas mere kuch questions ka answer de dijiye.” His jovial tone never let up even once.

“Ahaan, tu-”

Without waiting for her to finish speaking, he began his piece. “Pehla question- Kya mere dad alcoholic they?” when he received no answer for it, he moved onto the next one.

“Question number two- Kya who humari maa ko physically abuse karte they?”

No answer again. His forced smile dropped, and calm fury began creeping back into his demeanor

“Third question – Kya unhone mujhe pe aur Sonu pe kabhi haath uthane ki koshish kari?”

A look of terror passed on her hung face, but again, no answer. His voice hardened more.

“Chautha question – Kya mom ne unpe domestic violence ka case karke unhe divorce dene ki koshish kari?”

Her eyes shot up to meet his, growing wider in terror as he continued his train of questions. Clearly, she hadn’t expected him to possess all this knowledge or even a hint of it. Uncrossing his arms, he leaned forward just a little.

“Fifth question – Kya maa humein apni marzi se chodkar gayin thi?”

She still hadn’t spoken up, but he was done. If she didn't want this chance, fine.

“Theek hai dadi. Yeh last question hai. Agar aapko answer dena hai, dijiye. Warna iske baad meeting seedhe court mein hogi.” He spoke firmly, the low light of the room reflecting off his eyes with a hard glint.

The disbelief was visible on her face, “Ahaan puttar, tu mujhe jail bhejega? Iss umar mein, apni dadi ko court-kacheri ke chakkar katwaayega?”

Except she wasn’t his dadi. His dadi wouldn’t have done all this. His dadi wouldn’t have been responsible for his mother being physically, mentally and emotionally being abused. His dadi wouldn’t have been trying to kill his wife. His dadi wouldn't have torn her family to shreds.

He ignored her and asked his final question, “ Aaj jo Ishqi ke saath ho raha tha, kya who 20 saal pehle bhi ho chuka hai?”

At this, her eyes widened to impossible size and he could practically see the gears grinding in her head. It was enough of an answer. He called out to the police outside, without taking his eyes off of her, “Inspector sahab, please come in.”

The door swung open and two individuals walked in. “I’d like to file an official complaint Inspector. Against one Durga Devi on two accounts of kidnapping and one count of attempted murder.”

“Ahaan!” she gasped out.

Still disregarding her and now the female constable slowly moving to handcuff her, he fished his card out of his pocket to hand to the officer, “You can contact me at my office in Malhotra Constructions. My personal cell is on there as well. And I want to get psychiatric testing done for her,” he shot her a loathing look and then continued, “I don’t want anyone who is guilty to get away on a technicality.”

“We’ll see what we can do Mr. Malhotra. We have the doctor in custody and the nurse and receptionist have agreed to testify against him. If he cooperates, we could get his testimony to use against Durga Devi ji.” He gestured to the constable to begin leading their charge out.

As she was led out past him, he was hit with another epiphany. “Rhea sach bol rahi thi. Shaadi ki raat, she was telling the truth. Uss raat Ishqi ka kidnap aapne karwaaya tha.” With her head dropped, he couldn’t see an expression, but he was sure that he wasn’t making this up. It seemed like he owed Rhea an apology.

“Take her away Inspector. If you need me, I’ll be tending to my wife at City Hospital. You can contact me directly or through Advocate Sooraj Kapoor” With those final words, he swung the room’s door and rushed out of the Asylum with hell on his heels. If he never saw this place again, it would be too soon. It had taken his mother from him for 20 years. It had almost stolen his wife from him. He wouldn’t let it do that to anybody else.

------------------------------------

Part 5 done! Aur ab, homework time. (Koi mera stats ka homework kar do yaar. Ya jalaa do. I'm not picky. Bas mujhse maths mat karwaao.) So, aane waale week ka agenda hai 2 papers, 1 video interview to conduct, 2 quizzes, starting clinicals and starting my part-time job. Toh iss hisaab se, class mein bore hone ke time pe, I'll start writing next part Wednesday ko! Uske beech agar koi idea decided to haound me, I might churn out an OS, but we'll see!
