Priya's character is inspired?

Just watched episode 2.

And it appears to me that Priya's story is heavily inspired from Pakistani show Zindagi Gulzar Hain. 4 daughters and mother abandoned by father who has a second wife and son. Heroine is second daughter and pessimistic with life.

However, I'd say, ZGH's father was more realistic. He was bad but humane. Priya's father seems to be an extreme (Ekta's trademark).

As long as they can pull it off, I am ok.

What do you guys think?

Now that you've said this, can't unsee now. Priya's bitterness towards life and men can be clearly seen. In the end, when she says how can she trust men after being betrayed by the two ppl who she was supposed to love and who were supposed to be her support, damn I was heart broken! It'll take a lot of time for her to fall in love with Ram and more than that, it'll take a long time for her to accept it and confess. What an angsty journey we have ahead of us!

Yes.. noticed this just as soon the father angle was established in the show.

Agree about Kashaf's father being a bit more humane. Here the father and his reactions seem a tad bit unrealistic. Ekta believes in dramatizing things too much😵

But then this makes Priya's pessimistic attitude and cynical nature believable.. I mean a person who has only seen betrayal by men around her is bound to be the way she is..

It is going to be very interesting to see how this Priya falls in love and starts believing in love. We have got a story with immense potential here.. I really hope the makers don't screw up!

I agree! That scene was so beautiful.

Brilliant acting by Disha!

Actually, Kashaf's father's indiscretion was enough to make her pessimistic. Priya's pessimism is very similar.

This over-dramatization was not needed IMO. BALH2 is a lot more nuanced compared to other shows, but still not there. ITV is yet to learn that level of subtlety.

Yes.. they could have toned it down.. there was no need for her father to keep hurling abuses..and that woman to throw her mother's things out.. all these are unnecessary drama ..

@bold- Totally agree. ITV still believes in the in-your-face kind of handling of situations.. whereas a little subtlety works so much better!

yea, like many, I did feel it was inspired by zindagi gulzar hai -- specifically the mom getting dumped after having a bunch of girls and the dad focusing on a son who is not really pulling his weight. to be honest, I feel like it is too much drama for Priya -- like it wasn't enough that she got dumped by her boyfriend for her own sister but they have to add this kind of extreme dad. like I mentioned in another thread here, I would have preferred if the dad and mom had divorced for some other relationship problem like affair or just general incompatibility which would have made it interesting and not inspired. but we will just have to wait and see how they use these plot points to develop the characters further....

since it is an EK show, am not expecting much depth or character development to be honest. 😂

zindagi gulzar hai was such a well-written show with so much emotional and real depth. this will be more like popcorn variety angst but should be just as entertaining. 😂
