Episode 30
I know I have said this before that I loved KAM3 initially because i loved how every character had been given an insight and indulged in conversations which has always been a delight and this episode marked one of those episodes which I can say that was just perfect, less dramatic, more insight and absolute pace of of story. I cried at certain points, I do not know why even though such flawed characters Farhad-Mahi are, I cried for them, on 29th episode I cried because of joy, because Mahi was finally validating Farhad's love, and this episode I cried because both the characters are suffering from just helplessness, how do you get rid of something that is slowly eating you up alive, just how a bug sucks your blood?
Mahi-Sahiba
One of my favorite duos, and those who think Sahiba gas lights Mahi, let me repeat her lines here again, very clearly. She asked Mahi a question, Mahi's answer was 'I am a widow and widows do not have the right to love'. So, even before Sahiba could gas light her, Mahi herself came clean here, she denied her feelings because she believes her widowhood and her family's name is greater than Farhad's love, which makes sense, but Sahiba did not provoke her to rebel, she only asked her to stop lying to her own self, and as much as Mahi and her family has the 1920s old mentality, I am so proud that Sahiba here thinks and behaves like one progressive woman, who knows that a young widow does not deserve the father of 2 kids, a widow can still fall in love with a wise man, and taking a stand for your own happiness is a necessity. I have one question, if Hashim Nadim wrote Sahiba, then he knows how to write women, then why is Mahi not even 10% similar to either Sahiba or Romana? Sahiba clearly says that Mahi accepted Taimur ONLY TO SAVE THE FAMILY REPUTATION despite being unhappy, to which Mahi responded that yes and yes I have buried everything in my heart? Why could not we have this conversation just post Library chaos? Why? Why did it take 30 episodes to justify your male lead's stance and actions and clarify your female lead's intentions? Why cannot Mahi's love be as simple and as expressive as Farhad's love was for the audience, why? Why? Why is it necessary that to prove that a woman is saint, you just give her character zero arc that she loses the connect with the audience?
I am just glad that they clarified so much this episode, Mahi was compromising with Taimoor (Mahi's own words), she led on Farhad and broke him (Mahi's own words), she cannot accept his due to class difference (which I have been yelling since episode 4 but well) again Mahi's own words.
One of the most heart breaking shots of the entire show indeed was the terrace shot with Lahore's flashback? Aisa hota hai na aapko kisiki ki ahmiyat tab samajh aati hai jab uss insaan ko aap kho dete hai 😭.
Farhad: 'Kya pata kabhi fursat nahi mile humko'.. This jolted Mahi for a second, he always wanted a moment with her and she de-valued him, and now when she thinks of seeing him once, the shackles of society, family, class, ideologies and her own fate has made it close to impossible.
Farhad: 'Koi waada karo, mujhse baat karo'.. It was a low key love confession, wasn't it? So Farhad indeed ensured that Mahi knew about his intentions in Lahore only and despite knowing that she gave him hope. So is Farhad actually wrong here to think Mahi has mutual feelings too when instead of saying him to not expected promises, she misleads him by saying that only liars promise, we should not promise as we will meet again. Let me remind everyone that this was a conversation between two young adults who were potentially attracted to each other and in such cases who waits for a clear cut 'I LOVE YOU'? . I am honestly pissed off when i see some idiotic critics still complain that Mahi never promised LOVE to Farhad, for him to pursue her. If you love someone, there is mutual understanding, there is that vibe and there is always that unsaid desire and craving, one does not need exact promises to believe or expect a reciprocation, that is how first love happens. Farhad himself never blamed Mahi for any promises, infact he always said that his instincts brought him to her and woh mohabbat hi kya jiski yakeen ke liye aapko baato ki confirmation chahiye? Didn't Paro wait for Dev for 15 years without any communication? Why? Did Dev ever tell her that he had also burnt in her love all those years back in London? No.. Because that is how love is, if you love someone you develop that connection and instinct about your beloved, you wait, you pursue that person. Mohabbat bagawat hota hai, and Farhad did that, his bagawat ended the day Mahi ensured that she led him on, he blindly defended her and trusted her, put her at pedestal unless she ensured that he believes that she fooled him, and if it can take so much of effort to make Farhad believe that Mahi was fake with her, then how can one even think that this guy can move on? His little world could not bear the burnt of being someone's idea of joke, especially that woman for whom he risked his everything, his job, his life, his career, his dignity, not because he wanted to win her or possess her but because he believed she loved him and when you love someone you are fearless.
Farhad-Romana
Can I say I absolutely love the way Farhad's restlessness was shown just before Roma comes to visit him. Feroze did so well there, seemed like he was in physical pain, as he closed his eyes Mahi's condition echoed and the way he exhaled and shook with tears rolling down his eyes, this performance needs more appreciation.
Romana is probably the voice Farhad always needed to hear. 'Rooh kabhi juda nahi hote, albatta jism juda hote hai'. A woman's love has no boundaries, Romana is that woman, and as much as Romana loves him for the kindness and empathy he has shown to her, he equally is just like a disciple to her thoughts here, the restlessness and wait Farhad has for Mahi, just to have one glance of her, shall end soon, he will learn to live with the idea of loving her beyond her presence which Romana has for Sikka, sometimes you let go the person you love because you want them to be happy, Romana did that, Farhad will do that, and unknowingly she did a favor to him. I love how she asked for an ashirvaad bending her head towards him and he did not bless her, his thumb visibly stuck in the knot of Mahi's tanweez and he could not bring himself to bless someone knowing he is not capable of this sort of respect. I just love how subtly they have been showing Farhad's struggle, his whole existence revolves around this tanweez now, and just how we audience know that he has no spirituality nor he is capable of blessing or cursing people, he himself acknowledges that too, brilliant piece of writing and execution here. I love my male lead for being true to his own conscience at least.
Farhad-Baba sai (The last meet??)
Did they have their last conversation and did Farhad lose this one figure who would never ask him to forget his past but accept it? Once again, Baba sai asking Farhad to handle the shrine and Farhad being typical Farhad replies 'I cannot even deal with my own miseries, how will i take care of this responsibility? Can we appreciate the writer for making Farhad talk exactly what we wnat him to say? 😆. Jo banda ek tanweez ke liye sabkuch barbaad kardeta hai woh kaise ek mazaar handle karega?
And I absolutely like how Fakeer uncle fools Farhad time again, this time he fooled the already foolish boy by saying he drew the names and randomly Farhad was the chosen one.
I thought a lot on this and the only conclusion I have is that Fakeer Baba saw Farhad completely life less and aimless. 'meri mukammal deewangi ke liya dua kijiye' triggered the Fakeer baba into believing that Farhad was on the verge of another emotional collapse, where he is not insane yet but she is slowly becoming one, and the rescue mission is to give a new purpose to this boy, who never hesitates to help others, what better than pushing him into making an effort to live for a good cause like helping out the people who cry at God's door, maybe then only Farhad will realize that in this world like him there are many others who has faced huge losses but they still pray, they still beg these fakeers to pray, they still hope, they still love, they still live, and Farhad needs to go through that entire process by himself being at the receiving end of being someone's hope. A man who has no hopes from God, how will he deal with the idea of being someone else's hope? Farhad is that man and slowly he will enjoy the fact that even his one single prayer could make someone happy, that will be his victory, Fakeer baba played his cards well. And RomSik marriage will be Farhad's first footsteps into believing that he is not rejected or worthless in God's eyes, please let this happen makers, please let this happen.
Farhad repeatedly panicked as soon as the mazaar guy informed him that charity came from Mahi's haveli, the question Farhad asked was did she come? The answer calmed him down, he exhaled as if a bone stuck in his throat was removed, his suffocation looks so real honestly and the best thing about this entire scenario is that he is scared to see Mahi but he still craves for one glance of hers. Farhad is poisoned with the entire idea of Mahi, to a point of no return, neither he is able to deal with her separation nor can he tolerate to face her, he himself will go deranged if this ugly suffocation does not stop, I do not know how will it stop but Romana's words have already triggered his thought process.
Last but not the least kudos to Sahiba for calling Nazim Shah out and mentioning that what if we find someone who genuinely loves Mahi even if he is not a feudal. Ohh Sahiba, I love you for trying, and as Hashim Nadeem has established here, Nazim Shah reinforced that Mahi will rot for her whole life but can never marry someone out of her class and caste, all the debates which we had initially over the show not being based on class difference can snooze now, it indeed is about how the difference in class and social status was the ONLY AND ONLY REASON for Farhad's rejection and for Mahi's fate. I am not shocked here.
The episode belonged to Feroze, his monologues are such music to my ears, especially because of his voice and with the intensity he delivers it. Anyone watching it will surely believe that he indeed is a jogi, I cannot believe they wasted this guy for 11 episodes, his performance saved the first 12 episodes, and now resurrected the last phase of the show.
