But right now cases are way low compared to the peak of the second wave. People have been vaccinated too.
And it's not like people are staying cooped up at home, they are going out in big numbers. (Check article below; many such instances
I have a feeling that most of the theatre watching audience has now adapted to OTT. They have been doing it for over 1.5 years now, so they may have gotten used to it.
I wonder where this leaves all the big films... one needs another Bahubali level film to bring people back into theatres. Trying times for the film industry.

Theatrical still isn't fully open. Theaters in Maharashta were closed - that's 30-40% of Bollywood business. Some states had 50% occupancy (most shows weren't touching 50% anyway) or no night shows.
Even so, with an extra day and a holiday this is less than 25-30% of recent B.O. for Akshay with similar films. This though has less competition (if any) than usual so it might have better legs.
For comparison some recent Akshay films.. Opening Day/ Weekend
Kesari - 20.4 / 54.35
Gold - 23.6 / 40.25
Rustom - 13.92 / 49.5
Airlift: 11.1 / 42.5
