If it was a requirement and the lack of it was spoiling ratings, Ekta Kapoor is not a fool to tolerate it. The ratings are getting affected bcoz of the story and the popularity of a rival show

Audiences see the show for the show's sake. If they had liked the story they would see it with or without offscreen content. And if they don't like it, no amount of offscreen can help the rating
