I have tried to explain Virat and his thought process as to why he behaved or behaves with Pakhi the way he is behaving now.
He has made mistakes in the past, has double standards, I agree.
At the time when Virat left with Pakhi as in that jhoola scene, he wasnât fully aware that she was actually pining for him and was expecting something from him. I donât remember, donât think so. This was when he had asked Sai not to talk to Pulkit and had asked for time from her to reinvestigate. Friends can sit this way and talk but she was not just his friend, was his ex too. One can sit with their ex too and talk as long as they donât have anything between them, as long as one doesnât expect a relationship from the other.
I think at that time, in this scene, all that he knew was that Pakhi was feeling lonely, she doesnât have any feelings for Samrat, wasnât really waiting for Samrat.
- He knew that she was expecting him to keep his promise made to her.
- He knew that she wanted him to be her friend, was getting jealous of Sai and the attention that Sai was getting.
- He could see that she used to be caring, concerned for him.
- He could see that she couldnât see him and Sai together but wasnât really sure about it.
I think he was confused, was thinking that she would change, her thoughts would change. He might have thought that she was having issues because he was moving on and she was left alone. I am not sure if he knew that she had feelings for him and wanted him to reciprocate her feelings.
I think he knew certain things but also didnât know, he was surprised with a few issues that she had raised, he didnât like her taunting Sai, he didnât like her showing care for him, he didnât like her taking liberty on him but he never gave it a thought, he never even wanted to think, was dreading to think that she might have something for him and that is why she was doing it. Even after many issues, he had planned to take her and Sai so that they both can become friends.
He perceived Pakhiâs actions as jealousy of one daughter in law with another. He had thought that she had issues with Sai because he had supported Sai and spoke against her. He thought she didnât understand Sai as how she should be understood and was creating issues many times due to all this.
The day when Alta was applied on her feet, she had shared how lonely she was and how her rights were given to Sai.
There have been many actions of Pakhi that should have made Virat doubt her intentions. I felt that he dismissed them off and many a times he used to be distracted with his own happiness and his own problems with Sai that he failed to notice or understand certain actions of Pakhi. Sometimes he didnât even want to, it looked as if he was avoiding to think about all those in that direction.
Hence he had not thought much while moving with Pakhi as a friend, be it the day he went to complain to her about Aniket or in this jhoola scene or where he asked her what she was doing in the terrace. He has made mistakes in the past, made mistakes by giving her a leeway, let her speak anything against Sai and made mistakes even during the Ladakh trip, but he has defended or supported Sai to her too.
He might have got doubts when Pakhi asked him if Sai was telling truth about him having feelings for her (on PD lunch day) which he had denied and clearly told her what he thinks of her. He did say that he doesnât know what she feels but he doesnât think or have any such feelings. So, he wasnât sure about her but at the same time, never pondered I guess. Like, I have said it was an uncomfortable thing for him to think about and I guess he tried to push away thoughts that Pakhi feels for him.
He never encouraged her talks when Sai had left to PDâs house or when she had expressed her wishes to stay for 2 more days in Ladakh, or even in this jhoola scene. Even in this jhoola scene, when he was upset with Sai, he didnât get instigated with Pakhiâs words though she was trying to do it. He instead explained to her about Sai, was telling her that Saiâs intentions have always been right.
He probably could sense what Pakhi was trying to say or do, but I think he would ignore or neglect it thinking that cannot be possible and sometimes ignore since he doesnât want to ponder.
The first time he got very angry on her to be questioning him for moving with Sai was during Holi. He didnât like her bringing up the promise, didnât like her monitoring his actions and that too question him about a private moment that he shared with Sai. And then onwards, she had started to directly taunt about his closeness and his feelings for Sai. He wasnât comfortable to have food with Pakhi in his room after he had ousted Sai when she wanted to. That is because he didnât find that to be right and she was comparing herself with Sai, kept demanding openly which started to alert him and made him say no. And the confrontation after he returned from GC also made him draw a line.
He did make a few mistakes later like holding her hand on the day of Hariniâs wedding to stop her or shushing her near the dining table and all that especially after knowing what she feels. He had again failed to maintain a distance especially when he knows her intentions.
If we look at it, he had asked her to leave from the hospital too as soon as he woke up and found her with him, refused to feed her and felt disgusted when Kaku asked him to feed Pakhi when Sai was at Pulkitâs house, refused to have milk from her or go with her to hospital for check up when she offered to.
When things go wrong between him and Sai, and when Sai is not around, he acts very careful not to make things worse and so that Sai doesnât misunderstand him any further. He also maintains distance whenever he doesnât find Pakhiâs behaviour or expectations to be appropriate.
But when things are okay between him and Sai, he acts like a friend forgetting that Pakhi has feelings for him and has expectations from him. That is where he is disappointing. Whether or not it would create issues between him and Sai, he should always maintain some distance from her. But having said that, he would never encourage any inappropriate thing whether or not he and Sai are having issues. He draws a line when Pakhi crosses the line by trying to feed him or hold him because he knows about her feelings. But since he doesnât have any such thoughts for Pakhi and knows that he isnât wrong, he forgets to draw the line sometimes and he acts like she is his friend.
What I have tried to convey above is that Virat wouldnât encourage Pakhi when she crosses a line, especially ever since his confrontation with her after he returned from GC because he has come to know what she thinks and what her expectations are from him. However, he also doesnât think or understand that him being right and him having no such thoughts for Pakhi doesnât mean he can act casually with Pakhi as if she is his friend. It is like mere mann mein toh koi chor nahi hai. But he still needs to draw a line with her until he is sure that she has moved on, until he is sure that Pakhi has no feelings for him and no expectations from him.
This is why, I called it double standards because he is not able to tolerate friendship between Sai and Ajinkya, is getting so bothered about it, so much that he is overreacting but doesnât think about his own behavior with Pakhi sometimes. She is not just his friend but his ex too.
Even if I think that he has been wrong in Sai and Ajinkyaâs case so far by over reacting, I can still see why he is feeling insecured. I can see the reasons behind his insecurity. Letâs wait to see what he does before commenting any further on it.
I strongly disagree with your views that if Sai wasn't in the picture with Samrat being MIA, Virat and Pakhi would have had any relationship. Virat is a guy with high moral compass. He might have made mistakes but those were unintentional, that was when he had no control over his feelings and he was trying to get rid of those feelings at that time. He didnât even know what exactly he felt for Pakhi and still had tried to keep the promise made to her. He had meant when he had promised to her and that is why he was in a turmoil when he had to take Saiâs responsibility, when he had to get married to Sai.
Even if what he had for Pakhi was love and not infatuation, he would never cheat his brother or anyone for that matter. He would respect Pakhi and Samratâs marital relationship and would never think of encouraging any such thing even if Sai had not entered his life. I doubt if Pakhi herself would have developed all these feelings or expectations if there was no one in Viratâs life. She might have never stopped having feelings for him but I feel that her jealousy is the reason for her to act this way now, is making her to pursue Virat. Virat could move on in his life this soon because of Sai, but that doesnât mean that if Sai had not entered his life, he would have thought of having an affair with Pakhi. He would never do that.
