Wow! We choose our subjects in grade 9 for the following three years.

It's seven subjects in total. 3 of which are compulsory (English, Afrikaans and Life Skills), and have to choose a subject between 4 separate groups of subjects.

We choose an additional subject for classes 9-10 which is known as the sixth subject but we have to study the others too. Science subjects will be grouped as life sciences, history, geography and civics as social sciences. Then we have English, math and whatever our second language is. So total 6.

That is so cool! My grandparents migrated to Mumbai from Sindh during partition so my mom really wants to go visit her native place once. I’m interested too actually! Hopefully one day.

Not a creole, exactly. Yeah, it's got a lot of Dutch in, rather influenced by the Dutch who lived at the Cape back in the days, with a bit of Indonesian, Malay and German too (If I'm not mistaken). Even with similar pronunciations, its spelling and grammar are quite different to Dutch. I remember asking my Afr teacher, and she said it's referred to be Dutch's sister language rather than a creole.
