Since this is the only book thread on our beloved Marathi forum, I will post about Jhimma and other books that I read, here.

I recently happened upon Vijaya Mehta's autobiography "Jhimma: Athvanincha Gof". Vijaya Mehta is considered to be the iconic Marathi theatre director and actor.

Mehta writes very well, she should have been a writer as well.. Even though she writes about herself she has lived such a long life we get to know about per-independence days as well from somebody who has acatually lived them.

After reading the book my respect for Pu La Deshpande and Vijay Tendulkar has gone down a bit.

She talks about iconic actors and writers she worked with which give us a glimpse into history of Marathi theatre.

A very entertaining autobiography.

Trivia: Vijay Mehta is daughter-in-law of famous yesteryear Indian actress Durga Khote. She was married to Durga Khote's son Hiren and they had two children together before Hiren Khote died of heart-attack. She then married Farokh Mehta.

Vijaya Mehta also directed Iconic Hindi TV show Lifeline and movies like Pestonji.

Another trivia; Vijaya Bai's son Deven Khote is founder of UTV and produced many serials, movies and ad films.

I agree. Some of the great actors like Vikram Gokhale and Nana Patekar have also worked with her. There was another great actor she worked with Madhav Vatve who was her contemporary. She also worked with some great Marathi theatre actors from 1900's when she started working in 1951. She worked for almost 56 years, many people don't even live that long but then it was not work for her because she loved what she was doing.
