Don't know about realistic...but in my opinion his love for Sakshi was much stronger than his love for Purvi. And that is what ties him down to Sakshi.

Vir could not tolerate any perceived insults against Sakshi even though she was dead. But here Sakshi gets away with humiliating a very-much-alive Purvi over and over again, without any consequence

Therefore, inspite of claiming to love Purvi, and he does love in his own way, he cannot break away from Sakshi
