Anatomy, physiology, biochem are first year. Only non-clinical. You pretty much do not go to the hospital side at all. Where I studied, going to hospital in first year was super rare- like a field trip. Lol.
yeah anatomy is first year I remember because my friend used to tell stories about cadaver dissection.
Pharmacology, pathology, microbiology and forensic are second year. In second year you also start some basic clinical rotations even though the core subjects are non clinical. So you learn how to get history from a patient and examine them. You learn the basics of presenting the facts of a case.
ENT, opthalmology, Community medicine are third year along with more clinical rotations.
In this year you hone your clinical case presenting skills, more focus on generating diagnosis and basics of whay kind of tests you might order for each and basics of treatment.

Clinics involve core things like gen medicine, gen surgery incl orthopedics, pediatrics, obgyn and some specialty clinics/rotations too like dermatology, radiology, anesthesia, cardiothoracic, hepatology, nephrology, neurology, heme/oncology, developmental pediatrics, neonatology, surgical specialties too like head/neck, hepatobiliary, etc etc.
And then final year is clinical subjects- gen medicine, gen surgery including orthopedics, pediatrics and obgyn. With predominantly clinical time.
Often during training there are few weeks/months every year when you do rotations in rural based hospitals, learn public health prinicples, theres a few weeks where you do sub- internship/clerkship to get a hang of the actual work on the floor as a doctor because otherwise you only attend clinics to present cases and for teaching but figuring out the actual details of drawing blood, following labs, day to day things is done as a sub intern. And often you have to do a certain mandatory number of deliveries- in the labor room in obgyn so you may need to do night shifts. In my college we have ob labor room pisting during which time you are there in shifts to conplete the mandated nunber of deliveries.
Then there is internship which is one year of only clinical work on the floors. No classroom lectures anymore. You apply everything you learnt and its mandatory before graduation. You focus on actual treatment. Until intership you know everything in thoery but in internship you actually order the tests, interpret them and order the medications so you figure out dosing of the med etc.
I think we call is house surgency right? And it is mandatory you do it in some rural areas I guess
So basically by the end of mbbs, a person has a broad understanding of everything and then they can choose to stay as a family practioner (which has fallen out of favor) or specialize and subspecialize.
It is not easy to gain knowledge of a complicated machinery that is human body. I saw my friend reads piles of books and I always wondered how she remembers. She explained me that it is not mugging up but tying different things together and understanding the overall nature of the human body. Just mugging up doesn’t help in the diagnosis and wrong diagnosis is a sign of bad training.
But the cool thing is that once you start internship and then you pursue further specialty training- even though you are in training you are a doctor. You get paid and you work insane shifts especially in the early part of you career . But you also have to independently study and hone your skills depending on what specialty you choose. Some specialties involve procedures, surgeries etc. Others are more cerebral. And some are paraclinical which means you dont actually have to go back to being in contact with patients. But each have their own challenges and all are equally important. Nowadays medicine has become very expertise driven. People not only focus on one organ system but even just one disease/group of diseases.
I know getting specialized is one more difficult training process. My friend was married and had a baby so she could not get it in first attempt but in second attempt she got MD Gynaecology in a govt college 👍. She worked her ass off. The kid was completely handed over to grandparents 😜
So doctors go through really intense training. And training never stops really. Its a very dynamic field.
now a days doctors have to train in technology also like surgical machinery and procedures which again is added years of training. Now after years of training my friend is one of the successful gynics in my town with specialization in IVF. She is giving the joy of motherhood to so many women and I am super proud of her.
Only people that go through it themselves or close family/friends understand the amount of time and commitment it takes to get through it all. Most general public has not even a basic understanding of how the profession works/is structured. Thats why most of the general public only talks in extremes- either glorify them as god/heroes or say that everyone is corrupt, money minded etc etc.
without help of the family it is impossible to manage the training. In my part of the country girls get married at 25 max. Not anymore though. But 10 years back! So finishing higher studies in medicine and getting married was highly impossible. Now I think parents are changing too.
Its really sad that itv takes a profession like medicine and reduces it to something so superficial. These guys could not do bare minimum research to figure out which subjects are first year subjects. 🙄
Don’t even go there. Not only medicine, see how they are handling police officers also 🤣 they know how to handle only one profession that is family. Woh bhi with unwanted drama
Anyway they probably do this for all professions like ips/lawyer/etc too but I am personally ticked off by their representation of the medical profession because I can relate.
yes sai being doctor is something I like to see. It tests not only her but also her husbands efforts. Gadhe ne pregnant kar diya usko 😳. I hope they will change this track a bit and show her pregnant only after mbbs. They can copy KD till confession.
In another show on star, the FL is studying to be a lawyer and it is such a joke. She is doing some english lessons and computer lessons but apparently ready got admission in law college via correspondence and her husband who supposedly worked in some space/astronomy/defence (god knows what!) related field is taking classes for english AND law supposedly as if he is an expert 🙄
They make a mockery of all professiona because they cant be bothered to do basic research but yeh faltu ke chillam chilli karalo, asaani seh har baat ka batangad banayenge with BG music to go with.
