Hi Mousey! Long time. Thanks for the tag.
Yaar I love a lot of old songs, but I don't know if I can discuss anything on them. I just feel them. But going to bookmark this thread and post if and when I feel like sharing any oldies. Wish there was a thread where we can post about other songs also. I used to do this a lot on the music thread on BW forum with one of my friend here. But now that thread just seems so cluttered and seems more like a spamming adda.
Posting 2 of my very favourites here, actually there are a lot more but these are the ones that came to my head for now,
What an other worldy feel this one has. Transports me to some parallel world out there.
And next this one. This one is toh just ufff...
PS: Sorry to the thread maker for just intruding, I was tagged here. Would it be ok, if I post some oldies once in a while as and when I feel them?

Hello! đ¤
Welcome to the thread! And it's no intrusion, believe me! I'm just glad to have found so many that love these classics that tbh I think deserve all the love and then some! I'm so glad they haven't faded from public memory like I thought.
And yes, I get you about feeling these songs. Words somehow cannot express that feeling!
Please feel free to post whenever you like and join in on the discussions here (if you're so inclined) or just simply like the songs others have posted.
I adore the two songs you posted. I remember Naushad saying in an old interview that Aapki Nazron ne samjha will stand the test of time, and that its a great composition better than anything he's ever done. This coming from Naushad is a big deal since he was a purist. I think his words were vindicated, don't you? So many still listen to and love this song.
I have always done so - the tune is magical! , but offlate have begun to find the lyrics (by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan) a tad misogynistic (or maybe that's just the feminist in me working overtime đ¤). Perhaps it works with the context; Mala Sinha is supposed to be an illiterate who gets married to an intellectual (Dharmendra) and the movie itself bore the message to advocate for education in general and education of girls in particular, so it was progressive in that respect. Even if the lyrics to the song can be construed as slightly regressive.
Still nothing takes away from Lata's singing and the music by Madan Mohan.
And 'Ye raatein ye mausam' is lovely! Someone else also posted this song earlier, and to reiterate, it's so romantic and makes you feel one with nature!

Hi! Thank you. :)
I love the music of Aapki Nazron ne...I think the composer was right in his assessment. It truly is timeless.
Oh you mean by the start, 'Aapki nazron ne samjha pyaar ke kaabil mujhe'. :)
It did ring a slight ghanti in my head. But more so because I'm much more of a love yourself first and foremost kinda person. Irrespective of any gender involved. The lyrics of this one never quite registered in my head because I was just so taken away by the music. So I think my first attraction to this song was I guess the timeless music. I haven't seen the movie so never knew about the story. So yaa, the context to some extent do give the reason for the lyrics being so.
From Yeh raatien yeh mausum, I love the tune or melody??( Not that great with the technical terms) in, 'Yeh kya baat hai aaj ki chandani mai...' part. And you rightly said it makes you feel one with the nature.
Speaking of nature this one is also an absolute fav. It's a 70's one but about to be 80. Hope its fine. đ

Like most this also transports me to some other happier or rather resonating world, but mostly it is such a nice jam on a rainy evening.

And "jee hume manzoor hai aapka ye faisla, keh rahi hai har nazar banda parvar shukriya
hanske apni zindagi mein kar liya shaamil mujhe'
It just feels very submissive, idk, idk maybe I'm reading too much into this! đ¤
Yes! I love Rimjhim Gire Saawan. I love the KK version but the Lata version beats it hands down in the picturization. The rains, AB and Moushmi height difference and 70s Bombay! â¤ď¸
Madhubala and Dilip Kumar - the famed real-life couple with a doomed love story whose chemistry set the screen on fire. â¤ď¸
The Salim- Anarkali scene where he's caressing her face with a feather while Tansen is singing 'Prem Jogan banke' sets hearts leaping at the sheer sensuousness it conveys, without any vulgarity, crudeness or skin show. â¤ď¸
For all that, it's surprising they only did 4 movies together - Tarana, Sangdil, Amar and Mughal-e-Azam. And by the time they got to Mughal-e-Azam too much water had flown under the bridge, and the two were not even on talking terms. It speaks volumes of their professionalism that they were still able to generate that chemistry despite their personal equation having gone so terribly sour.
What's even more surprising is that there are only 3 duets (as far as I know, please correct me if I'm wrong) picturized on them! And only 2 happy, romantic ones!
This one is from Tarana (1951) their very first outing where their romance is supposed to have kick-started. You can see and feel the chemistry leaping out of every frame, every look they share, and every smile they smile at each other.
'Nain mile nain huye baawre' is a lilting tune by Anil Biswas, with lyrics by Prem Dhawan, sung beautifully by Lata and Talat.
Just look at the way he tugs at her hair, and then pulls her ear playfully at 'Mil gayi zulfon ki thandi chaon re'!

The other happy Madhu-DK duet that comes to mind is 'Dil mein sama gaye sajan' from Sangdil which is loosely based on Jane Eyre. Again a beautiful tune that simply flows like a gentle stream, each antara is different, and the tune never goes back to the mukhda. The song simply goes on flowing..
The composer Sajjad Hussein was apparently very temperamental and a terror to work with. He would demand (and exact) perfection from his singers. He's known to have been critical of several of his contemporaries such as Naushad and also singers, and had supposedly found fault with even Lata's singing on account of which differences arose between the two.
I had written in an earlier post that Salida had termed Kishore Kumar as 'Shor Kumar'. I was wrong. It was Sajjad. He also called Talat Mahmood 'Galat Mahmood' đ!
Madan Mohan was so taken in by his song 'Ye hawa, ye raat, ye chandni' from Sangdil that he borrowed the same meter for his song 'Tujhe kya sunaoon main dilruba' for which Sajjad taunted him saying 'Aaj kal toh parchhaiyan bhi ghoome phirne lage hain'! To which Madan Mohan gracefully replied that he could not find anyone better to copy from. Sajjad was left flabbergasted at his honesty and the open praise!
The man gave music for few very films, his most popular and most critically acclaimed one being for Rustam Sohrab but I love the songs of 'Sangdil'. Just listen to how this song flows, makes you want to sway along with it!

The third Madhu-DK duet is again from Tarana - Seene mein sulagte hain and that deserves a separate post because it's quite simply đđđĽşđ

Hellođ¤
Same here, mujhe bhi samjh nhi aata ki old classics songs ko sunte waqt jo feel hota hai usse kaise likhun, but yahan Riya aur Madhuri jaise experts ke posts read karke seekhne ki koshish kr rha hoon, jis tarah se vo, songs ki baarikiyon/khoobiyon ko describe karte hain, vo to kamaal hee hai.
Plz yhn aate raho aur song post karte raho, KD ko bhi tag kiya tha, shayad vo bhi join karegi.
