I’ve been meaning to write this post for a very long time just been lazy but it’s the perfect time to write this now!
so here is my understanding of Sai, Virat and sairat as characters- flawed yet beautiful!!
I’m a Stan of sairat together, perhaps I have characteristics of both in me and hence somewhere and at times I relate to the other one more!
This is my opinion and in depth understanding of these two over the course of 200+ episodes!
Virat-
I’m going to start with Virat!
highly misunderstood character, he’s human perhaps the most out of the lot. He’s flawed as any one of us is and has a strong sense of core values formed during his childhood. A family guy who has learnt to be self sufficient, non conformational, calm, emotional, subdued in his demeanor, and practical.
He is conflicted between his morals and his wishes, brought up in a family where men perhaps never showed their emotions, he was probably always told to man up, don’t cry, learn to get over it!
He’s probably never opened up completely, never had that comfort for whatever reasons and it happens a lot when you live in a joint family, I’ve seen it with my best friend.
he is called the favorite of the family, but is he really.. no, it’s according to the wishes of those around him, if he goes against them he’s no longer the favorite but when they need something from him he automatically becomes the favorite. We don’t know much about his childhood but from whatever information we’ve been shown he was made to choose between his kaku and mother almost always, obviously kaku had the upper hand, she was supported by his father, kaka, and younger kaku. His mother was also submissive and perhaps never learned to speak up until recently. Even aai would let him go to kaku before anyone else, she gave her her right but knew her son would always respect her and stand by her, so she never worried!
His entire life has been revolving around his family, a lot was hidden from him and he never questioned it because he trusted his family enough to know they weren’t lying!
To him his farz lies above everything, he will sacrifice himself for his duty but never give up, something imbibed in him as a child watching his father and elder kaka in the service.
His biggest flaw is his anger! He loses the plot when he gets angry and makes mistakes resulting in hurting the ones closest to him. This stems from the lack of love he received and his tendency to push people away sacrificing his wishes and desires in the midst.
Sometimes this anger turns to silence and tears, he has no answer or explanation to give to the one infront of him. His life comes to a standstill because he feels misunderstood. The same happened when pakhi misunderstood him, he broke but again his love for his family and his duty was above his own happiness so he gave up his supposed love for her because he felt his brother was in love, the happiness he saw on his brothers face was enough to fill his heart!
Enter Sai, a young girl with high values like him who would do anything for her family! He was proud of her the moment he heard about her and met her, her vivacious and tenacious nature attracted him towards her.
For circumstances, the two got married to one another and there started a beautiful journey.
He has always craved love and crave, he got that from Sai! From the moment she became his wife, she stood for him, cared and supported him come what May! From the pehli rasoi to DIG to bringing pakhi back for his happiness she stood by him and his wishes, respected his space. That’s what made him fall for her...
jab koi apki parvah kare toh aapko ussi se pyaar ho jaaye....
As time passed with Sai he fell harder for her... pure love! But Ofcourse it isn’t easy when your family is against your decision, those are the hurdles he needs to overcome, he is torn between the love for his family and the love for his wife. So common!
he stands for what he feels is right, gets easily manipulated by his elders, and gives in to their wishes at times, but eventually makes his way back to realization that he was wrong.
That doesn’t make him abusive, or insensitive he’s growing. A emotional man in a world where men are told to man up!
His fear of being misunderstood has come out in this track, he said it himself she misunderstood me and hence he feels she doesn’t love him, when you love someone you give them the chance to speak and keep their side of the story! The conflict of her emotions makes him doubt her stand. He’s very clear in his words and wishes- I love Sai and I want to spend my life with her.
is it easy to confess when I he other has misunderstood you, no! She would’ve said no, pushed him away further and he would’ve had his heart broken! he craves the love and intimacy of his wife, like any man, he wants her completely to be one with her emotionally, physically and spiritually!
Funny isn’t it, I did the exact same thing, loved someone but never confessed fearing my heart would break what did that result in nothing but another heartbreak! But it’s not easy as it seems, movies and books make it seem so but in reality it isn’t one bit!
so his conflict lies there....
a man with morals who craves love by that one special person in his life who has and will always be SAI!
the reason he doesn’t speak up is his non confrontational ideal of life. He rather sort it with that one person than with the entire world.
for him he has been clear to pakhi and doesn’t want to have any conversation with her. The walk away when she entered the room spoke a lot to me... actions speak louder than words. He knows if he is to say something she will create a drama and guess what the family will side with her not him! He’s a peacemaker and that is his nature!
Many who live in joint families are peacemakers, I’ve seen my best friend first hand being the way he is and it would irritate me to the core that she never spoke up! But as I grew older I understood where she came from, as I went and stayed with her at her house I saw the dynamics and learnt from them....
that’s what I see in Virat Chavan! An emotional, misunderstood but loving guy whose anger gets the best of him!
Sai joshi-
coming to our dewdrop!
she is beautifully written less complex and layered compared to Virat hence a little easier to understand.
She belongs to a family where she is raised by her father her only family, he never made her miss the presence of a mother’s love, took in usha maushi as his sister and they together raised Sai. She had all the freedom given to her by her father, the right to live by her own terms, equality and a say in the matters of the family.
She saw a lot as a young girl, her father a police officer perhaps away on his missions and cases, she would miss him, yet she never doubted his love because she was never made to feel used or misunderstood. He stood by her through thick and thin.
she suffered harassment, torture by hands of jagtap at a very tender age, the age where we are developing our morals and our views. Yet she overcame all with her head high.
her biggest fear was losing her father, her only family. He was her world, ready to leave everything for him even her dreams!
the day her fear came true her existence came to a standstill, she broke, in her strength she became weak.
It happens to the best of best and I personally know the feeling. Those who are the strongest at times take the worst decision in their moment of weakness. Not because they’ve lost their strength because they cannot imagine or even think about moving on. You can say an easy escape, you’re done fighting but you’ll emerge stronger than ever....
same was sais life when her abba died, her life shattered, her dreams nonexistent in that moment of weakness....
she grew tenfolds through it. Married at a young age, somewhere she knew this was her chance to have someone who would be there for her. Bound by the promises they made to each other of no expectations somewhere she developed some...
She is vivacious, tenacious and firm in her beliefs. She stands for what is right, come what May, is impulsive, unwilling to listen at many times, strong headed. She has built this wall around herself, not letting anyone in because she knows the feeling of losing the one most close to you- she’s seen it twice her mother and her father- that kiss is unbearable.
She can do anything for the one she loves and cares for like she brought pakhi back for virats happiness! She craves the love of a family and in their own warped way chavans give that little hope of family to her....
She accepts the flaws in a person but doesn’t let go of her identity... she did all the rituals for the chavans benefit but stood up for herself when it came to changing her name. That is Sai!
Slowly she became attached to Virat. She sees her father in him, like most girls look for their father in their husband.
she sees his care and his love but steps back when she’s reminded by pakhis actions and words that he gave the latter a promise. For her then even virats actions aren’t important. Words matter a lot to her especially the promise one has made.
Only the ones she loves the most affect her, she only lets them in her heart. Only Virat has the ability to hurt her.... he is her strength and her weakness like she is his..
She’s conflicted why do I care, I knew from before, why does it affect me, she gets a high when he cares for her, loves her, scolds her... she’s open to him and never retreats to a shell unless provoked.
She too craves an emotional, physical and spiritual bond with her husband but she is bound by the promise he gave to another. She respects his wishes....
If not for the vaada reminder perhaps these two would have never brought it up ever. Like aai said I thought this topic would end but before it could her patience ran out..
she can’t take injustice and feels Virat has been unjust to pakhi. Virat to feels guilty that pakhi is in this situation because of him.... (pakhi is a narcissist and will always make the one infront of her feel at fault)
so she builds her walls her, is unwilling to listen and when provoked will only stand by the truth like last week.
she loves unconditionally and she loves him that way, it’s just that she hasn’t realized it. Her actions say something and her words oppose it! Anyone can get confused....
Sairat together-
This is where the beauty lies... two individuals different yet alike!
both crave love and family.
They are each other’s extremes. The ability to hurt the other lies with the other one.
they affect each other and hence the extreme emotions come out infornt or towards that person. Vulnerable, emotional, upset, happy all these emotions come out infront of the other only!
the fear of their heartbreaking or losing the one true love, they know the feeling.....
Their silence today stems from the same fear..... his silence to pakhi is a sign he wants nothing to do with her, he has told her thrice already, his silence to sai is his inability to understand her feelings.
Her silence is because of his promise to pakhi and its reminder as well as her inability to understand what is going on with her!
It is so human their relationship, organic and realistic....
There is growth, there is emotion, progression......
See the virat in episode 1 and the virat today, the man lives for sai, for her happiness, for her everything...
See the Sai in episode 1 and the Sai today, the woman lives for virat, for his happiness, for his everything...
unknowingly, they made each other their world, only those that affect us that matter the most to us, only they have the ability to pierce our hearts, bring us happiness, joy, love, warmth, anger, ego, jealousy, possessiveness, tears and so much more.
They can't see it, and it is normal, sometimes the things infront of our eyes is what we can't see, so what do we do, we build stories in our minds about the person infront of us, the misunderstandings grow, ego clashes and relationships hurt....
In no way his or her actions prove that they don't love each other! Every individual is flawed and different, they are so human- sai and virat- that it irritates us when one doesn't take the right step! think about it, put yourself in that exact place realistically and think what would you do, perhaps you would speak up, perhaps you would not.... it depends how each one of us is built!
That is the simplicity in the complexity of sairat..... their flaws! Together they are beautiful and balanced, apart they are extremes! Ying and Yang!
They are perfectly imperfect individually yet perfect together......... that is the beauty of love, relationships, and a companion!!
Their love is pure, hurdles to cross like every, ups and down like many! Life is a rollercoaster, theirs sure is, they will come out stronger and closer but this is THEIR journey together, not apart TOGETHER!
