Malaika, Arbaaz to divorce?

Malaika Arora Khan and husband Arbaaz Khan [Images] are reportedly heading for a divorce.

The news came as a surprise to many, who considered their 10-year marriage to be quite solid. The couple has a son, Arhaan.

Reasons for the split are not know yet.

After his acting debut in Daraar, Arbaaz's career did not take off. He has been seen since in small roles, the latest being Apoorva Lakia's Shootout At Lokhandwala [Images].

Malaika, on the other hand, has become quite successful post her sizzling item numbers, from Dil Se's Chaiya Chaiya to Welcome's Hoth Rasiley.

When a television channel, Live India, asked the couple about the divorce, Arbaaz and Malaika neither confirmed nor refuted the news.

"It was my private life and I would not like to discuss it in public," Arbaaz told Live India, adding, "Life is uncertain and no one knows what will happen tomorrow."

Malaika seemed to be shaken when she spoke to the channel. "It is too personal and I would like to keep quiet on this issue," she said.

When reminded that keeping quiet on such issues indicates trouble, Malaika said, "I believe silence is golden."

The news comes as a surprise especially at a time when Malaika and Arbaaz are getting ready for their Kannada film together, Shaadi Ke Side Effects. The film, which is about marriage and infidelity, sees Malaika in her first lead role. One wonders if the news of the divorce at this time is a kind of promotion for their film.

After the movie releases both actors will come out and rubbish all rumors of divorce. 😛

One of the sultriest women in India is said to be single again. Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora's 10-year-old marriage has gone kaput. Buzz is Arbaaz has found a new love. The disintegration of one of the strongest marriages in Bollywood has sent shock waves through the industry.

Two weeks ago, Arbaaz moved out of their jointly-owned house in Vida Apartments in Bandra. Malaika and their five-year old son Arhaan are still staying there.

A friend of Malaika tells us, "Malaika and Arbaaz have stopped communicating with each other completely. She is not even aware whether Arbaaz is staying with his father Salim Khan at Galaxy Apartments at Bandstand, or elsewhere."

Arbaaz and Malaika had met on the sets of a coffee ad shoot. After a brief romance, they got married, first with a traditional nikaah, then with a Christian wedding, on December 18, 1997. But a few months ago, serious friction began showing up in the marriage.

Our well-placed source in the entertainment industry also tells us that Arbaaz will not remain single for long. He has already decided to remarry and even has a girl in mind, who is, incidentally, not from the entertainment industry.

When contacted, Malaika refused to comment.

Arbaaz, however, said, "I don't want to comment on my personal life or on Malaika." When we asked him whether he's planning to remarry, he said, "Why is the press so impatient? They will know whether I'm remarrying or not in due time. I will probably talk about it soon. At this moment I don't want to say anything further."

It's ironical that this comes at a time when both Malaika and Arbaaz had just begun to do well professionally. Lately, Malaika has been flooded with film offers. Her sexy item number with Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar in Feroz Nadiadwala's Welcome won her a lot of taalis. Recently, Malaika has essayed a full-fledged role for Suniel Shetty and Ekta Kapoor's upcoming film EMI, and to date, is busy hosting the reality show, Dhoom Macha De.

Meanwhile, Arbaaz, who will next be seen in Sanjay Gupta's Woodstock Villa, is also busy

resurrecting his career; Salman is ready to co-produce a film with Boney Kapoor for him as solo hero and the project will go on the floors by end of this year. Arbaaz's last few films Shoot Out At Lokhandwala and Bhaagam Bhaag haven't fared badly either.

Interestingly, Malaika and Arbaaz have acted together in Indrajit Lankesh's film (untitled yet), which will soon hit the theatres. Malaika plays the temptress and has an item song with Arbaaz in this film. After the shoot, Malaika had told the media, "It was great fun working with Arbaaz. Now I want to do a full-fledged film with him."
