Hello everyone,

Hope you all are doing well & must have got yourself vaccinated for at least 1st shot.

As per news, Centre is planning to study - Mixing of 2 vaccine & single dose of Covishield.

https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/centre-panel-to-study-mixing-doses-covishield-single-shot-101622487530874.html

This study is aimed at mixing 2 different vaccine brands for better efficacy. At present Covaxin, Covishield & Sputnik V, are available in India. Also will a single dose of vaccine work to give sufficient protection against covid-19?

Initially Astrazeneca- Covishield in India, was planned as a single does vaccine. 2 dose were planned to give better protection from the disease.

Single does policy will help Govt in covering larger population.

New ideas are implemented with better understanding of various situations. At present J&J, Sputnik Light are single does vaccines.

Please share your views on this new idea of sharing vaccines & will a single does of Covishield work?

Studies into improving drug efficacy and working out ways to vaccinate majority population are welcome steps. However, it is important to ensure increase in vaccine production. With Covaxin and Sputnik V not having any API dependency on US & its allies, there is a need to ensure that these vaccines are produced at a faster rate. Further this flip-flop on gap between vaccinations is confusing. For example I recovered from Covid in May and the earlier gap to take my first shot of 6-8weeks is now increased to 3months while there are cases of fully vaccinated people succumbing to the virus. These create doubts on the studies going on. It's important that the Government ensures transparency and credibility in its vaccination policy. Also when are we getting Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J?

With supply-chain and shortage issues affecting the global rollout of Covid-19 vaccines, especially for the second dose, researchers are exploring the idea of mixing and matching vaccines. But is it safe?

Getting the right vaccines into the right people at the right time during a global pandemic is, unsurprisingly, proving to be a logistical challenge!

While drugmakers are churning out a variety of effective and mostly safe vaccines that have been administered to millions worldwide, there are undeniable bottlenecks in the supply chain and barriers to overcome if the rest of the world is to be fully vaccinated anytime soon.

Some experts are wondering whether flexibility in allowing mixed-dose vaccination might help people get fully vaccinated faster. Others have argued that mixing two different vaccines could actually do a better job of protecting against Covid-19 than sticking to the same one for all doses.

It does make some simple sense that sparking more than one arm of the immune system could boost immunity on the whole.

It is still in experimental stage, they are exploring all options to cover as many people as they could.

Thanks for posting this thread Mina. 🤗It is necessary to ponder over all possibilities , to ward off this disease now.

Anything newly introduced will face lots of criticism .... will be viewed with suspicion for its safety n efficacy ...... arguments for and against the single dose vaccines continues .... side by side trials and success stories continue ..

I've read that other countries are trying this too right now, Vaccine cocktail. Good step though, if it gets successful with higher efficacy then much better.

This virus has different variations, and so the data keeps changing too.

For example, they've increased the gap between Covishield doses, it was already done in other countries like Spain: 12-16 weeks, UK & Brazil: 12 weeks, Bangladesh: 8-12 weeks. They've to test country wise due to its having different variants.

And from now on the WHO will use Greek letters to refer to variants of COVID19.

Current variants of concern (VOC) are:-

Alpha - first identified in UK

Beta - first identified in South Africa

Gamma - first identified in Brazil

Delta - first identified in India

Some updates regarding Vaccines:

Production which is going on right now of available vaccine ->

PS: The reason you're seeing other companies under Covaxin is because of this : "People say that Covaxin be given to other companies for manufacturing. I am happy to say that Covaxin manufacturing company (Bharat Biotech) has welcomed this when we discussed it with them. Under this vaccine live virus is inactivated & this is done only in BSL3 labs. Not every company has this. We give an open invitation to companies who want to do this. Companies that want to manufacture Covaxin, should do it together. Govt will assist so that capacity is increased: Dr VK Paul " Source

Some extra info - BIBOL produces Polio oral vaccine in India.

Bharat Biotech is working on Nasal Vaccine too.

Trial on age group 2-18yr is going on right now, they've received permission today. SII intends to begin clinical trial of the Novavax vaccine on children, soon.

Dr. Reddy's in talks to bring single-dose Sputnik vaccine into India, right now they are producing double dose Sputnik vaccine.

Vaccine by- Zydus Cadila, Biological E. and Gennova, are expected to come in market around June-August.

Novavax and BB Nasal ones around September.

Novavax global head delayed it, before it was announced by SII that it'll be launched by June. Experts have said that delay in raw material has caused this too and it was also reported that shortage of supplies like filters and single-use bags have also contributed to Novavax’s delay.

Zydus Cadila - DNA plasmid based vaccine

Gennova - mRNA based vaccine

Biological E. has tied up with Providence Therapeutics - mRNA based vaccine

J&J has tied up with Biological E. for its production too.

Zydus vaccine will be of 3-dose, can be stored at 2-8°C temperature. It is expected to be in market in June for adults only for now, they are working on children one too. They found out in Phase 1&2 trials that 3-dose worked much better, though they said that they are working on another 2-dose one too.

Pfizer wants indemnity protection against liabilities before they bring vaccines to India.

PS: Pfizer has sought indemnity and liability protection in its agreements with other countries too, which gives the firm legal protection from any claims linked to any adverse event after use of its Covid19 vaccine.

Moderna is in talks with Cipla, for manufacturing single dose vaccine in india. It'll come in 2022 (till now this info is available)

In Kolkata news papers they have mentioned a new variant “Vietnam mutant” which is even more virulent and more infective than the Indian variant . pits is because of deletion of Amino acid from the RNA genome of the virus .

It’s causing havoc in Vietnam .

Sharing the link..

Many people are scared to take the vaccine fearing severe adverse side effects following vaccination .. People must get over their fear and take the vaccine which will help them in future to fight against mutant variants also . unvaccinated population is highly at risk of fatality due to severe lung involvement and arterial blockages

GOI is keeping on changing their vaccine policy. At first,it was told that 2nd dose of COVISHIELD would be given after 1 month of first dose.Later on,they came up with new policy stating it will be given after 12-16 weeks. Now they are planning to mix doses and to give one dose of Covieshield.

It is clear that there is shortage of vaccines but instead of increasing the production of vaccines, they are looking for ways how to give less dose to people while changing vaccine policies one after another. They don't have the audacity to even accept that there are shortage. There is no genuine effort. What can we common man expect from them who sell 60 million doses of vaccines to foreign countries depriving its own people.

All these are their cunning tactics to cover up the shortage.Whereas, everywhere around the world, people are given two doses of vaccines, this government are planning to give 1 dose.Even 2 doses of vaccines doesn't give 100% guarantee of protection against Covid-19.This virus is continuously mutating which leave us concerned that whether these vaccines would be effective against new variants.

In many states, the vaccination for under the age group of 18-44 has been stopped as there are no vaccines. And they are claiming they will vaccinate all the people here in India till dec😅

Even with two doses, many people died so how can they even think of giving one dose😅
