The Porcelain Doll
Sonu Raj Rathore the girl who got married just 6 months back was sulking in the kitchen of Rathore household kneading the dough and preparing food for her husband and mother-in-law. Ever since she got married life had not been a bed of roses for her. Though she got a loving husband in the form of Raj she had got the worst mother-in-law in the form of Sarla. Everyday after Raj went to office, Sonu was treated like a maid in her own house, She would be hurled with taunts of the mistakes that she had not even committed. Sarla was the worst mother-in-law anyone could ask for. Sarla would make her do all the household chores all by herself. Even after living in such a big penthouse and having all the facilities to afford servants. Sarla would never do that as she believed that if daughter-in-laws are there to do the chores why should they waste her son’s hard earned money. Sonu would have been given punishment if she did not do the task assigned to her. Once Sarla even burned her hand by putting a hot spatula on her hand.
“Sonu!!!! Sonu”, Raj’s voice brought her back from her dream world.
“Haan Raj bolo kya hua?”Sonu asked. “Sonu sach-sach btana tum ro rhi thi naa?” “ Nhi Raj shayad aankh mein kuch chala gya tha, tum btao na kya hua?” “Main toh tumhe yeh btane aaya tha ki Ahaan bhaiya aaye hain tumse milne. Tum jaldi bahar aa jao, theek hai?” “ Haan Raj main aati hun”.
“Ahaan bhaiyaa!!!” Sonu came and hugged her brother who had always cared for her like a father or a mother would for their child.
“Kya hua Sonu tu aise rone kyun lag gyi”, a worried Ahaan asked his little sister. “Kuch nhi bhaiyaa bas aap sab ki bohut yaad aa rhi thi mujhe aap sabke paas aana hai thode din ke liye, aap mujhe lekar chaloge?, Sonu asked like a baby. “ Ofcourse itni si baat hai chal tu Sarla aunty se pooch le phir main tujhe lekar chalunga. Theek hai?” “Bhaiya mummy mujhe haan ni bolengi aap puch lo na pls. “Aree kyun nhi bolengi tu bahu hai unki? “Bahu hun isiliye toh nhi sunengi pls aap baat kar lo na.” “Theek hai chal” Ahaan agreed. “Aree yeh chali jaayegi toh saare kaam kaun karega?”, Sarla asked. “Aree mom aap toh aise bol rhe ho jaise bahu nhi maid lekar aaye ho aap ghar par” an angry Raj defended his wife. “Raj main baat kar rha hun na. Aunty Sonu kuch din ke liye hi toh jaa rhi hai na pls aane dijiye.” “Ab tum itni request kar rhe ho toh theek hai Ahaan beta le jao apni behen ko. “Ae sun agar apne bhai kuchh bhi btane koshish kari na toh tera aisa haal banaungi kabhi yaad bhi nhikar payegi apne bhai ko. Samjhi?” Sarla warned her after everyone left the room. “Ji mummy” These were the only words she could utter in front of Sarla.
Scene changes to Sonu’s room Malhotra house-
Sonu was writing how her day went in her diary. The only place she found her solace in. She could not complain about his mother’s behaviour as she did not want to become the wall between the mother-son and neither did she want to let Ahaan down so she chose to pen down her feelings in a place where no one could get to know about her ordeal.
“Sonu tujhe neeche chachi bula rhi hai '' Sonu got startled at Ahaan's sudden arrival and tried to hide her diary but was noticed by Ahaan.
“Haan bhaiya jaa rhi hun”, Sonu went leaving her feelings at the hands of Ahaan who wanted to read what his sister was writing.
Dear Diary,
Aaj meri pehli rasoi thi maine sab ke liye kheer banayi thi sabko bohut acchi lagi Raj ne toh 2 katori extra khaayi.
Ahaan felt proud of his sister but whatever he read after that started making him hate himself.
