What do you think made him fall for her(it's not about opposites attract, per se)?
I want to go down the soulmates path here... Fate / serendipity type.
Actually theyâre not opposites at all ... yes the circumstances of their upbringing have shaped their outlook on life but that is not who they are. At the core, theyâre the same selfless people who are trying to take care of everyone around them.
Their initial meeting, I think Ahaan was a bit taken aback - he was in trance albeit for a short time so that was his first step. He is the older, responsible and protector of his loved ones - so he saw a âdamsel in distressâ and that appealed to him. But then Ishqi was no damsel so it frustrated him and the more she sought to be independent the more it got on his nerves.
So I actually didn't watch the first few episodes until maybe a month ago. And as I mentioned in my previous notes, my take has to do with soulmates theory and fate / serendipity.
The way we were introduced these characters, we knew Ahaan was a very serious / hardened person. His childhood experiences, upbringing and environment defined his personality and outlook on life, but his real characteristics have always been the same. This is very similar to Ishqi, who also had her personality shaped by childhood experiences and the environment she grew up in. They have grown up in different social classes, their inner conflicts and struggles were quite different, but their true characteristics are essentially the same: loyalty, protecting people they love, responsibility of family /household, providing comfort and security to those they love. Once you peel all the layers, it is obvious their core characteristics are exactly the same.
Their very first meet, you can see a visibly annoyed Ahaan to be naturally intrigued by her. I won't say love at first sight but he definitely liked her and therefore agreed to give her a ride. And she trusted him enough to accept the ride âso there was an underlying thought for each that this person is ok. Of course that meet went haywire, but it definitely made them get under each otherâs skin. And it was later when they kept being re-introduced in otherâs lives that they got to know each other better.
Ahaan is a very put-together character; People who know him in anon-familial capacity never see him smile and he has this very serious / stoic persona. In fact as we have noticed, he does not share his privy thoughts to even his closest friends let alone family â he will go out of his way to help them (which is in his nature) but he still has that wall around everyone. This includes his girlfriend Rhea. Ishqi on the other hand is impulsive and spontaneous â she can easily befriend anyone, but apart from her mother (in heaven), she hardly shares something personal to anyone. Actually this is similar to Ahaan as well.
As I mentioned earlier, Ahaan has the hero complex (I use complex for lack of a better word) â even Kartik has pointed it out. In his first interaction, Ahaan noticed a damsel in distress but Ishqi was no damsel, and neither was she in any distress. In fact, she turned out to be some dabang bindaas person independent enough to take a decision of getting an elderly couple married. That was the first time someone had challenged Ahaanâs ideals. And it bothered him to the point that he started assuming things about her. In fact, Ishqi did the same âwith their different outlooks, she just could not understand why Ahaan has such poor beliefs about independent women and assumed his male chauvinism.
Despite how much he said he disliked her, how much he was angry with her, he still helped her. That was something that Kartik took notice of. Ahaan easily placated all this for Mayank and his family. But it bothered him how Ishqi could be so careless. That bother does not come for any Tom Dick and Harry - In my opinion, he had underlying feelings for her the entire time otherwise you just donât do all that he did for anyone. To be fair Ishqi did the same â maybe not for him directly but via Sonu. Always protecting his sister against Sarla Aunty, bearing the brunt of all nonsense without any complaints. And they both took notice of it. Perhaps it was the hero complex that came into play trying to make sure everything goes ok and smoothly and everyoneâs dignity / respect remains intact.
But that is one unique quality that unknowingly tied them together. The turning point was when Ahaan finds out Ishqiâs reality of being orphaned young and he says it all to her when he is high. When he said his heart broke at that instance; what he meant was that his heartâs fortitude crumbled. See Ahaan is far more mature and perceptive of situations etc⌠as he spent time around Ishqi, he understood he had certain feelings for Ishqi though he never showed or mentioned. Kartik wouldnât have mentioned it just like that â he knew Ahaan was already aware considering his actions and was only trying to negate, deny, and be defensive about it. We also have to understand that everyone around Ahaan simply complies and agrees with him ... even if they disagree, it will be like agree to disagree ... but Ishqi is the only one who challenged his thoughts time and again - faltering his stoic persona with her impulsive reactions.
Basically, knowing one real detail about Ishqi, he understood her outlook and why she was who she was. And this was only based on one of her realities â he doesnât even know about the abusive household she was raised in and how that has shaped her thought process. In fact, he realized in the moment that in trying to keep himself strong against all the societal slurs he went through, he became just that for her and so he developed a new found respect for her, which made his feelings even stronger.
And once that guard was down, every little detail about her reflected in his own characteristic and before he knew it, he had given her his heart without any questions asked. Ishqi is not there yet in acceptance of love, but her path to understanding and feeling for Ahaan is exactly the same. That is why I say they are soulmates. Two imperfect people, in perfect harmony together.
