Overlooking of imlie’s character in a show based on her

Hello everyone, long time no see 😆

So, wanted to share my thoughts about imlie and the recent promo circulated, won’t talk about that drastic dhoka diye part, badly executed. Thought it stemmed from what she saw happen with her mom and anu’s constant torture belittling her, plus a naive foolish thought of expecting adi to love her but fulfil his duties towards malini. But none of that was explored as her character wasn’t given enough time at all to show case or process any change. Just drastic changes from one episode to next if you’re not analysing every step of the past. Made her seem like a hypocrite, badly handled and I was very upset since she’s the lead and wasn’t given enough time or screen space to show her thought process. I made sense of whatever I was given by all the reasons above and the emotional torture she was being put through.

So anyways, talking about the now:

Imlie pre episode was bashed so much because of that one promo and I see even after the episode coming around people are already accusing her of something she hasn’t even done yet, although I am upset with writer’s not giving her more time, I think we need to have patience with her character growth too as adi’s was spanned across 150 episodes. Her trauma is even 2x bigger than adi’s, I thought when promo came out her words say clearly she’s accepted adi but her immense guilt is making her want to see malini happy with her bf before letting him tell the family, actually somewhere her selfishness here too wanting to be rid of that guilt it’s not mahanta (I am just explaining her though process and behaviour here, this did frustrate me into going ‘let malini be even if she has a boyfriend she’s not gonna marry him just because you want her to’ but apparently for imlie married = happy, and why she would think that also makes sense reasons given, though not less frustrating)

And how come she won’t be guilty? Imlie has been shown caring more about others than her own self since the beginning and right now somebody’s whole marriage will end in order for hers to begin properly, the somebody she also loves so why it’s not incomprehensible to see her being worried and guilty for her. This isn’t a small thing, her getting over her guilt is going to be a journey which I thought even a few months ago, adi took more than a 100 episodes and imle‘s hasn’t even properly begun yet. I don’t think even adi being upset at her the right approach to this, what she needs is reassurances about not being the one who ruined malini’s life, which she thinks she has now rn, nobody is addressing that with her. Also, it happened in the episode on saturday, she has completely accepted adi and she’s not going back on that now, promo was not about that, if she stopped him from revealing the truth to the police it was because his family doesn’t even know yet I thought. And where the last part of episode is concerned, how are we so easily forgetting this girl spent months as a servant in his home? That was not her fault but she had to live like that for months, the blow to her self worth it has had has created so many insecurities, and she had to see this other girl with adi who everyone called perfect bahu who’s completely the opposite of her and called perfect for her acha khandaan acha naam the words of Ts ringing in her ears, plus that classist anu always mocking her on status tell me how she wouldn’t have insecurities here, this journey to becoming a daughter in law from how she was forced to live isn’t going to be easy, it’ll be full of confusion, hurt, fear and doubts for her.

The problem here is not her character but the way it is being portrayed, character’s actions make sense but her thoughts are not given screen or time or enough thought or effort, she’s being overlooked for other characters, don’t get me wrong I love adi’s characterisation (wednesday’s episode concluded the most satisfying and best redemption of an itv ml I have ever seen I’d say) but despite the character of imlie having double of more to tell through her trauma she isn’t given 10% the thought that his character has been given. They are overlooking the female lead here and that’s why there’s a disconnect because her scenes are not being portrayed properly or given the right amount of screen time, besides that her trauma and core character makes it understandable where her fears/actions stem from. She’s not as different from as she was since the beginning, just very broken right now. What she went through? It’s not easy to get over.. I just wish in imlie’s show imlie’s character could also be given more freedom and space to show this progress more clearly as it is coming out as a jumble to viewers right now, especially since not everyone is going to be sitting here analysing the characters. Firstly, in that suicide track she was made a lifeless puppet and this time she’s barely being given a proper character flow god knows why, because she’s the lead and we’ll just go along with whatever they show us? This is show is centred around imlie, and I see tracks around everyone and portrayal of everyone’s inner turmoils and thought processes except hers.. as if she’s a puppet along to everyone else’s decisions and thoughts while reacting confusedly in once in a while..

I am also highly disappointed with the approach they took this whole track starting from truth reveal to SK visiting, too rushed. I don’t even understand why so much rush, with those tracks being one of the most important ones of this show and something that was getting them good trp too..

Anyways, for the initial episodes of this week, I can overlook this but only if they remember soon imlie is their female lead and the audience needs to maintain a connect with her, I love her character but I think it’s not being treated right for how the female lead’s character should be here.. in terms of character flow and screen space..

Correct i have lost connect with the character. All the time characters are flipping and doing things which are not explainable. Better explantion and execution was required for sk and meethi marriage track. It was very rushed.

For recent episodes seems lockdown has some effects on the story and execution. 😩😩😩

I will only summarise here. Imlies selflessness is her biggest draw back. 😩😩😩Thats all. Its been her upbringing values and beliefs. She carries her mothers genes after all ☺☺☺

What i dislike is that she is allowing everyone to make decision for her despite knowing she will only receive humiliation😣😣😣 coz bs is taking time to tell his family what is his relationship with her in the first place. 😠😠😠

The way he just sat like a mouse next to malini despite behaving like a lion at the lounge earlier was irritating. 😠😠😠

Come on just say it out imlie is my first wife. Pls dont humiliate her. She has every right on me and my family. So dont blame her if i brought her here. How difficult is that ??

Did aditya bring her there to give her the rights as a wife or to be insulted as a maid. 😟😟😟

This guy cant handle situations wisely. Messed up two womens lives now tine to sort it out but putting brakes on it. Slow motion. 😩😩😩

To be honest its tine to take a little break from the show coz its all back to square one again. Imlies humiliation track as the hse maid. By mini AC team. As if at chatuevedis were not enough.

Due to lockdown restrictions they had to initiate this annoying track and perhaps larer on only will show imlies journey to fullfil her dreams. Till then just bear the drama ahead. 😩😩😩

Frankly not convencied with the fact that Malini told she has someone in her life...and Aditya agreed it...comeon the guy was in relationship with Malini for 7 years and got married to her cause he used to say that he luvd her...😆👎🏼

I frankly feel Imlie is not committed to Adi she is just committed to her sindoor... her character graph is such a mess ... she thinking him dhokebaaz , why her expectations were not spelled out correctly tht she expected him

To protect thou she denied ...she doesn’t even have a monologue where she talks to herself or Sita Maiya her irrational views ... and on top I’m not sure who is she decide that DD should marry ...before they settle down how can she force her in a relationship even if DD bluffed did it even make sense she telling her this is ur house all ppl are urs ... cmon she has self respect she should also understand that DD has self respect and would not like to live in a loveless life there is no guilt trip ...people fall apart ... Adi is just clinging to this DD’s fake love story and giving himself a clean chit and later will try to go down the guilt trip if things don’t work in her life ... I mean if this fake love story was not put fwd wht was his plan of action . Where is Imlie’s story here she is not even having a heart to heart conversation with BS ... I’m not even understanding wht platonic love are we being served here ... I think Imlie will just back off I’m not seeing her being strong in this matter does she understand she is hurting the man who matters a lot in the process of pleasing others ... does she think she is briyani and will be loved by all ... 🤦🏽‍♀️

Abha yours and mine’s perceptions regarding the show might defer a lot, to you show disconnect started long ago but to me everything made a lot of sense until after sindoor fight, but right now I agree with you completely. The track was rushed in a way which made it seem disjointed and as if they’re brushing the most important parts of this show under the rug be it the truth revelation or SK finding out and getting married (happened all in 5 episodes can you believe it?) to this torture imlie part and for what? This is imlie. I hope they’re not getting influenced or something cause more than family drama imlie is watched for the characters and their dynamics. Truth revelation, SK finding out, SK and meethi getting married all barely done with in a week. And for what? The trp was good, this could have been stretched over a few weeks to flesh it out properly but they decided to rush the most pivotal moments in this show..

Not gonna talk about aditya malini’s marriage dynamics cause that marriage and relationship always seemed broken to me since the start. Been a regular viewer since the second week and above surface level romantic dialogue thrown here and there for reasons out of true affection I never saw anything deeper in their relationship. Both barely communicated to understand each other, one would say something other would understand something else. Something was clearly troubling aditya but malini could never figure out he’s stressed, malini was unhappy aditya hardly could care above surface level. Doomed relationship from start.

But I do agree with you about this fact ke it shouldn’t have been so easy for him to accept it, even if I don’t agree they were ever even good friends, character does keep saying she’s my best friend and spent 7 years with her so how’re you so easily gonna believe an absurd story as that. Seems to me like it’s something he wants to hear and I am alright with that if that’s how they showed it, because I accept this story with all its flawed characters. But they keep saying it’s because he thinks malini can never lie, even if it is being shown ke aditya thinks ke jhoot bol hi nahi sakti I accept that’s why he accepted the story, isn’t her repeatedly saying ke imlie mera pyaar cheena chahti hai during truth revelation gonna raise any alarms ?? They make the characters brain dead according to convenience whenever they want.

I still see it as him wanting to hear this and moving forward with all that, last week’s episode I thought gave me the most satisfying redemption of an ml in itv, was very happy with it even despite my complaints of others were acting out of character or imlie being overlooked. The redemption arc was very satisfying. But yesterday’s episode brought me 2 steps back. Again, brain dead at convenience looks like we can only watch the show from an overall storytelling perspective, individual tracks .. choppy writing right now.. can only wish yesterday was a blip bas ..

I can’t even blame it on lockdown anymore, it’s just choppy writing at this point.

Even if I agree not to care about individual episodes and let it be, chalo aditya is quite because imlie said she wants to see malini settled first (out of character in my opinion) but I can’t accept this guy would let her lie about being tortured at Cs. I just cannot accept him just looking at her and letting her lie like that, a blow to his character, not aditya like at all.

His overall arc is great but yeh beech beech mein aditya kahan chala jaata hai? If it was a once or twice occurrence fine, but this has been a constant for weeks now.

I think her abandonment issues play here with how her father had left and mother had to live. The Ts who loved her suddenly treating her like crap. Makes sense for her to want their love again and be immensely guilty for messing up a “happy family”. She needs to be told that’s not what happened but that part of the story is completely ignored. All her important parts are. She accepts Ts were treating her like shit and decides to leave but after a few days comes back and acts sacrificial because ‘Ts love her’ give me a break. Horrible writing, horrible execution. Sorry but that’s the truth. Rushed all the good and pivotal points in the story only to make a khichdi out of it.. the acting and cinematography is what I am here for at this point, story progression has lost me completely..

Frankly Aditya charcter has no depth....just watch random TV story wich is not interesting at all or change the channel😆

Dont want to analyse and waste time so much on wich is not touching or interesting story at all...😆
