Hemantda was definitely known for his haunting melodies. Like in the night when silence is your companion his songs are usually in that setting

Liz! I love this song so much!

Kahin deep jale kahin dil

Jara se dekhle aakar parvane

Teri kaunsi hai manzil

Lata Mangeshkar's voice just makes it even more spooky than it is already

Though I havent watched the movie {Makes me think I should}

Rafi's voice is that how do I say, the deepness is perfect with a smooth undertone..I dont know how to describe it

But his voice is just perfect in a way

I watched the recent 'Rebecca' too, though I much prefer the older version. Hitchcock and Laurence Olivier! ❤️. I have watched 'Bees saal baad' eons ago in a time when I was obsessed with horror movies (yes that was a phase! 😳😆)!

These two songs were supposed to sound spooky and ghost-like because they were meant to be suspenseful and scary, but I find this is true for even some of Hemantda's romantic and sad compositions. They have that faraway, echo-y, haunting quality.. idk how to describe it but it feels like they're being sung from deep inside a valley or a hollow cave.. 😆

Listen to these two - two of my absolute Lata favs, in fact, they would figure in my top fav songs list from that era)

I wish...

One of the major reasons I couldn't discuss these songs

Because none I know share that mad love for these vintage melodies

I guess Mannmohanaa aka Mahi might be interested but I am not that sure

I don't know if it's nostalgia or something similar but the old is always the better one. Like somewhere we agree the older versions are better...

I am still obsessed with movies with a suspenseful background and have some elements of horror but these days horror is just not my type

I need that suspenseful horror genre back where it was more about emotional complexities rather than the VFX

Oh I have listened Chup gaya koi re

I loved the flute music...those days the music never overpowered the song neither where they underpowered

The balance was so perfect

I will listen to the latter one now...

I agree wholeheartedly. He definitely needs a separate post dedicated to him...

Sad 😭!

Yes, I see these songs slowly getting erased from public memory. Even the reality singing show contestants don’t choose these melodies anymore. Pity!

I remember participating sometime back in threads on the Bollywood forum where some members would discuss these classic songs. I should go back and look at those posts and dig up those members!

Btw, have you watched Javed Akhtar’S show called Golden years on Zee Classic? He did one episode on one year from 1950 to 1975 and narrated quite a bit of trivia on the songs. Well presented show!

It's sad that these days these beautiful melodies aren't being presented to the public anymore. Even those shows in the music channels put these melodies late at night and that saddens me somewhere

I actually thought of going in the BWF to see if I might see any thread like this {Not a BW fan tbh...} and got nothing there so was like leave it

No, I haven't...I remember listening to Golden Era with Annu Kapoor though...

Such shows are needed to keep these beautiful classics alive in our minds

@ Bold For me it's the familiarity and the simplicity, ya know?

I read about these movies getting remade like Chhupke Chuupke and I'm like, dude no please! Don't touch those classics! 😭

I couldn't watch the new Chashme Buddoor! 🤢

@Green: I know what you mean about psychological thrillers. I prefer those kind too instead of the ones with Freddie Krugers or zombies attacking the planet! That's why I love Hitchcock- he's the master of suspense thrillers!

I agree about the balance in these songs being perfect! That's what makes them so soulful. I cry when I listen to Chhup gaya koi re. The pathos of Lata's voice and the flute together - they just pierce the heart! 😭

Also, the singers in those times had to be so darn accomplished because there was no auto-tuning and they had to get it perfect in one take or start all over again! That's why I have mad respect for them!

I think Netflix has it. It's a really good show for lovers of these classic songs.

Yes, the Golden Era with Annu Kapoor was good too. Even the Antakshari he used to host- the singers would sing older songs, the rounds would quiz them on older numbers - like the dhun round and the antara-mukhda round.

Yes the BWF never has topics on older movies/songs and people who post there get ignored or mocked. 😔 So I usually keep away. But occasionally a brave member does post. Some time back a member would post song lists - like songs with 'yaad' or songs with 'moon' and I would love spamming those threads with the Golden oldies! 😆 I was usually the only one though! 😒

Exactly! The very thing!

The simplicity of those movies! Yes that is what makes them so much better

They are? No! I dont want that...

If people knew how to retain the essence of those movies then might be I would have grudgingly agreed to those remakes

I ignored it like I ignore most of the Bollywood stuff these days...

Freddie Krugers...reminds me of my love of that movie A nightmare on Elm street

I loved that movie...

One two Freddy is coming for you

Such movies made it interesting to watch

I agree! Have you seen Suspicion?

I agree...the balance made it so good it warms my heart how amazing it used to be in those days...music wasnt loud enough to just snatch the essence from the lyrics

Exactly! They didnt have technology to help them and that itself makes it different...makes them perfect..
