Yes, many still don’t really understand or take covid seriously....I still see lot of ppl not handling masks the proper way or covering the face properly. Also, many of these measures in India can be only implemented by ppl who are privileged.

I read recently a view from an Indian doctor on SM:

“ Social distancing is a privilege. It means you live in a house large enough to practice it. Hand washing is a privilege too. It means you have access to running water. Hand sanitizers are a privilege. It means you have money to buy them. Lockdowns are a privilege. It means you can afford to be at home. Most of the ways to ward the Corona off are accessible only to the affluent. In essence, a disease that spread by the rich as they flew around the globe will now kill millions of the poor. All of us who are practicing social distancing and have imposed a lockdown on ourselves must appreciate how privileged we are. Many Indians won’t be able to do any of this.”

It’s true and that’s why the cases cant be controlled in India. It’s actually sad that the privileged ppl don’t understand how lucky they are. For instance, many in Canada protests against measures in the name of rights; life is more valuable than rights. Many countries can’t afford many of these measures yet here we are complaining about these measures ( USA, Canada, EU countries...). In fact, Canada offer benefits for ppl who have lost a job due to covid or are sick or have to take care of someone who is sick. There are even benefits for business that had to close. These are privileges that many countries don’t have. The world is so divided and unfair.

For Dad 's brother Doc said that vaccine potrundha ivlo serious aagirukadhunu

I m so confused ...

At the start of the year I thought I won’t get vaccinated. As the vaccine rollout started I slowly changed my mind. The real time data does show that the vaccine lowers the covid symptoms, hospitalization and death rate. The effectiveness of preventing the spread of the infection is very low and it’s still under study. Therefore the vaccine helps in preventing strain in healthcare system ( hospitals/healthcare workers) and also lowers the death rate. At least 80% of population have to be vaccinated ( with the required doses) to achieve some sort of herd immunity that will lower the spread rate (it’s still arbitrary at this stage...but data from Israel looks promising). Therefore, ppl need to get vaccinated in order to go back to some sort of normal life. It’s no longer that only older ppl are at risk due to the variants ( the variants are worse than the original). Many younger ppl have died or experience severe symptoms. The younger generation can not really count on their age factor to recover. Therefore, getting vaccinated is a hope for better days. However, it all depends on the vaccine safety also.

There are some safety concerns with certain brand. AstraZeneca / Covishield/ Janssen are associated to an unusual blood clots. Mostly in women and an age group of 50 below. The percentage of these clots versus the number of vaccine administration is very low that the benefits of getting vaccinated out weights the risks. However, the risk still there and not everyone is willing to take that risk . Many of the western countries have the privilege of selecting the vaccine such as Pfizer/ Moderna that are not as controversial (at least for now there is no alarming safety data). It’s really not an easy decision to make. However at this point it’s covid risk versus vaccine risk (the probability depending your surrounding environment and your health).

In my circle everyone is getting vaccinated ( family, friends, colleagues) and so far it’s been smooth. Even one of my cousin who is pregnant got vaccinated ( Pfizer) last week. She was debating a lot as so far there have been no clinical study data on pregnant women ( study is ongoing) but since the cases were up in her provinces she decided to take the vaccine. I decided to do my part and when my group opened I made an appointment.

It’s not an easy decision but it seems we don’t have much choice if we want to get through this.

Very sorry to hear about your house issues and your uncle's passing, Sandhya. May his soul RIP. Om Shanti.

Our prayers and best wishes for your relatives' speedy recovery.

Admirable of your mom to pray for the well being of those who have done your family wrong. God will surely bless her and your family for this single action. Glad to hear that you have shifted back home.

Here in SG, they are currently conducting vaccination (can choose between Pfizer and Moderna) for the more vulnerable groups of the population (like those aged 45 and above), while the younger ones / those whose workplaces have less potential impact, have to wait until June to book slots. In the meantime, they are restricting social gatherings and number of visitors to homes to 5 per day. Looks like this is the new normal for now.

You're right Maya, many tend to forget that initiation/participation in a lockdown and other measures is also determined by the person's affluence, and is not opposed merely because people wish to flout rules. Sad reality it is. It really saddens us to see India, and other countries facing similar situations, in this state. Really praying for things to get better.
