50.

After the wedding guests had their fill of food and dancing, it was time for the Mansi’s “vidai.” Aai and Nikhil and Kaka had already promised Pallavi that there would be no silly crying on their end. Of course Sulochana and Amruta cried their tears. Milind Kaka the most of all. As Mansi and Rahul (and Rahul’s family) left, only the Raos and the Deshmukhs were left in the house. After a slightly awkward silence, Raghav said, “So, we should leave.”

Baba was glaring at him, and Raghav thought it best to get out of this house before any other drama happened.

As they walked outside, Farhad said, “Amma, Keerthi, you two come in my car. We can let Baby Shona Jaanu drive his own wife home.”

Raghav made to slap Farhad on the back of the head as Amma and Keerthi laughed, and Pallavi blushed.

The ride back home was awkward and silent, every time Raghav thought about saying something, he seemed to forget what he wanted to say.

Pallavi realized she hadn’t felt this nervous even after the first time she had married Raghav.

When they reached the house, Pallavi took off her seatbelt made to open the door, when Raghav rushed out of the driver’s side and opened the door for her.

As she got out their eyes met, and then Pallavi looked down and said, “thank you,” smiling a little.

“What’s so funny?” Raghav asked.

“Pallavi walked past him and made her way up the driveway, “oh nothing, I just always find it funny that the so-called Don of Hyderabad is now planning weddings, putting on jewelry, and holding open doors for women.”

“Hey,” Raghav ran to catch up with her, “what is this ‘so-called’ nonsense? Do you think anyone but a Don could have gotten all this done in less than two weeks?”

Pallavi nodded apologetically, “oh no, Baby Shona Jaanu, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”

Pallavi laughed and walked to the front door. Raghav grinned and hoped with all hope that Pallavi would never stop laughing like that.

Reddy opened the front door after Pallavi knocked, but before she could take a step inside, Raghav was behind her and then he had carried her in his arms.

“Raghav, kya car rahe ho, are you crazy, there are people here in the house.” Pallavi exclaimed.

“Toh kya, I’m not committing a crime, it’s my house, you’re my wife.”

Pallavi protested but melted at Raghav’s smile, and he carried her upstairs to their bedroom.

He sat her on the bed, and Pallvi replied, “Ho gaya aaj ki tamasha aur mazak? You will never change, you—“

Raghav put his hand over her mouth, and got close to Pallavi so they were face to face, “aaj ke liye, tumhare bashan ke holiday, kal se shuru karna.” He grinned.

“Raghav Rao, tumhari jokes na, bahut bhure hain.”

“I definitely wasn’t joking.” Raghav replied, sitting next to her on the bed.

He took her hand and slowly took off her bangles, one by one. Then he moved closer to Pallavi and she caught her breath, he undid her netthi chuti, and her earrings, placing them all on the side table next to the bed. Pallavi shivered when his fingers grazed her neck as he undid the necklace.

Their eyes met and Pallavi cursed herself for blushing so much, why couldn’t she be as cool and suave as him, how was he so calm?

Raghav was far from calm, even as he looked into Pallavi’s eyes, he fought a part of his brain that was screaming at him to just say he was tired and go to sleep. He didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize this moment, this relationship that he had committed himself to for the first time in his life. But the rest of his brain was telling him something else.
