Hi i am fortune cookie.....well there are many versions about sita's birth......as majority of Hindus know that sita was the incarnation of Laxmi and Ram was incarnation of lord Vishnu....and the story that appeals most to my heart about sita's birth is something like this....Ravan as we all know was very intelligent which led to so much arrogance in him ...he hated all rishi munis who worshipped lord vishnu....He started taking taxes from all the rishis and priests had no money to pay him so he collected taxes by filling pitchers with their blood and when thousands of rishis blood was collected they had to dispose it off somewhere as this was leading to lot of disease in lanka....so ravan ordered his goons who had the power to fly to take the pitchers fiull of innocent rishis blood and discard it in some far off land away from lanka....the goons flew off with thousands of pitchers of blood and happend to throw it in Janak's farmland which resulted in all the farms drying off and no wheat could be grown... the farmers went crying to Janak and the head priest told Janak that he will have to till the farm himself ...and Janak being kind hearted did till the farm for the sake of farmers and it was while he was ploughing that he found sita ...and sita as we know was the cause of Ravan's downfall.....now this maybe a story which many will not believe but it tells me something... that in our lives whatever we do will come round to us ....if we keep doing evil we will have to pay in this very life and so is it with goodness....Thus in every little story there is lesson and Ramayan is the greatest lesson of my life....thanks for loading the clips and happy watching of ramayan for folks who enjoy watching........Fortune cookie

I found this on sagar world:

According to one of the tales in the Puranas, the traditional texts of ancient lore, Vedavati, an incarnation of Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, was observing severe penance in the forest when Ravana beheld her and was captivated by her beauty. He could not resist touching her with his hand, overcome as he was with desire. Vedavati was enraged and cursed him that a woman will be the cause of his death. "In the future, if you ever try to seduce any woman against her wishes, you will be burnt to cinders", she said. Ravana crept away, hapless. Vedavati used her yogic powers to reduce her own body to ashes. It was she that appeared as Sita from the earth's depths.

There is yet another legend. Ravana sent a messenger to some sages who were meditating in Dandaka forest and asked them to pay him a tax. The sages declared, all we own is our bodies, the only tax we can give is our blood. They collected the blood from their veins into a 'matka' (earthen pot). They sent the matka with a messenger with a word of warning. "This will bring about Ravana's destruction".

Their words kindled fear in the heart of Ravana and he sent the pot far, far away, to be buried in the distant land of Mithila in a field. It was from this pot that Vedavati appeared from the land.
