It would be interesting to know how Ponting makes Ashwin understand that the ‘spirit of the game’ takes precedence over ‘laws of the game’ when it comes to running the batter out, who is obviously trying to gain advantage by backing up earlier than he is legally allowed to.---

Fielders play a great role in defining a team’s success and it has been evident over the years in most of the franchises that have gone on to win titles in IPL. They can change a game around with a splendid catch or a direct hit which may go onto dismiss the batsman and it also shows the desire in the team to succeed.

Jonty Rhodes is one of the best examples as he had been picked up in the playing XI on most occasions due to his fielding. He can defend 10-20 runs in the field and can be a match-winner with an excellent catch or run out that changes the course of the game.

The Indian middle-order batsman Manish Pandey is one of the best fielders going around in the country and takes a lot of stunners in the field. He is very good inside the 30-yard circle as well as on the long boundaries, and he has turned around matches from nowhere with his excellent fielding abilities.

Former Indian batsman and Chennai Super Kings left-hander Suresh Raina has been a live wire in the field over the years and has been one of the best fielders produced in the country. He has been very good in both the 30-yard circle and on the boundary lines and does make a lot of difference in the field.

He has a smile on his face always and has turned around games with his brilliant fielding. Likewise, he is third on the list of most run-outs effected by a player in IPL history with 16 and saves a lot of runs for his team in the field.

Virat Kohli is another brilliant fielder in the Indian team and the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper does produce a lot of unbelievable efforts on the field. He has taken a lot of blinders in the field and is very quick on his feet. He has a good throwing arm and does impose a big threat for the batsman with his fielding skills.

Furthermore, he outsmarts the batsman on most occasions and enjoys fielding on any position on the ground. He likes to set standards in the field and leads by example with most of his efforts. He does not miss direct hits most often and does play a big role in the fielding unit. He is second on the list of most run-outs effected by a player in IPL history with 19.

The Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world right now and he certainly deserves to be in the number one position in the list of most run-outs effected by a player in IPL history with 22 under his name. He is very agile and a quick fielder and has a good throwing arm.

Jadeja makes the toughest catch look very easy on the eye and his accuracy in hitting the stumps from anywhere on the field is unmatchable. His latest fielding efforts led to CSK’s win over Punjab with the important wicket of KL Rahul and produced a great catch to dismiss Chris Gayle.

He did show only glimpses of his fielding skills and it was effective enough to turn around the match. He will go down as one of the best fielders in the world.

The best fielder is Sir Jaddu imo. He is like electric in field, everywhere u see in pitch u find jadeja👏 previous match he saved so many boundaries n the runouts he did was just out of world.

Nowadays fielding is very imp part of winning games, if u have great fielders u have chances of winning or having less runs to chase/defend.

Like batting and bowling, fielding needs continuous practice.

I heard some teams practice on the beaches and some on smooth surfaces.

Jonty Roads made fielding popular and Jadeja has shown how important it is to be alert and covert those saving the runs into run outs. Hopefully young ones will pay attention to fielding as much as the other two departments of the cricket.
