Movies, songs that made us what we are

There are many movies, books and songs that would have helped to shape us into the persons we are today. Had we not seen those movies, heard those songs or read those books at an impressionable age, we would be very different from what we are today. They taught us what life is all about - how to cope with adversities, the various colours of love, and they even built our value system.
Let's talk about the films and songs which had maximum impact on our thinking from the time we were kids (some of us still are!).
I would like to start with the film Seema. I was completely mesmerized by this movie - the beautiful Nutan who faced so many obstacles in life and felt completely alienated from society. Balraj Sahni is simply marvellous as the man who patiently steers her back to sanity with his knowledge of human nature. Shubha Khote as her best friend is another memorable character.
Extraordinary songs take the story forward and stay with us for a long time. Watch them here:
Watch out for Nutan's expressions as she sings "manmohana badey jhootey". Lata Mangeskhar had acknowledged that no one could express it better.

I don't know about others but my life is totally shaped by the experiences I had in my life, mostly real and few virtual, where I was lot more involved than being a mere listener or viewer. Looking back, I do not feel any movie or song ever had a life altering effect on me. I may have liked them or may be moved by them but I don't think they had any lasting impression on me.

When we start crediting the movies for the good values we have or for how prepared we are to face life then we also set the stage for those losers who can blame the cine-world for all the failures in their life and their vices.

I feel the movies and songs are like garnishing in food....good for enhancing overall appeal...enhancing certain experiences one had in their own life rather than creating the experience itself. They may boost up your morale when you are feeling down or may get that heart skipping a beat when you see something utterly romantic on screen and can identify with it or may make you shed a tear here and a tear there whan you see someone suffering on screen but I wouldn't credit them for shaping me as a person or for my values. I have my family, teachers, friends and other life experiences to thank for the person I am😊

Thanks for sharing Gauri. I guess it varies from person to person. In my case, movies, songs and books have had as much impact as the people around me. Guess I am like one of those characters in Filmi Chakkar TV serial who compare every event in their life to some movie scene! 😆
What's more I find myself humming a song to suit every situation I am in!

If movies shaped life... then I guess my life is the most shapeless one!!!!😕😆

No songs did not shape my life either... they were my companion alright to cater to my moods, but it thats where it ended...

Life got shaped by time, teachings of family n tecahers , some gospel truths, experiences and offfcourse from lessons learnt from past actions..😳

Seeing the responses, I am wondering whether to proceed further. The next movie to have shaped me was -don't laugh - 'Seeta aur Geeta'.

On the face of it, it such a formula movie with twin sisters separated at birth, one growing up like a maid under the tyranny of cruel relatives and the other like a free bird even though living a hand to mouth existence.

But I loved to see Hema Malini as Geeta - so strong that she could bash up goondas and so confident that she could handle any situation with her presence of mind. The way she manhandled the wicked Manorama and other villains, rescued her sister and brought the story to a happy ending was very inspiring! Many movies have been made to mimic Seeta aur Geeta but none can match it. Of course, the originial Ram aur Shyam from where Seeta aur Geeta was copied was also very good but to see a woman whacking the wrong-doers was more inspiring!

I think how this movie shaped me was that I wanted to become like Hema Malini playing Geeta! 😆 😆

I don't know whether any Movie or song shaped my life.. But I grew up listening to songs both Hindi n Kannada, also watching lots of movies...

when I look past one song comes to my mind that is Venkateshwara suprabhatha by M.S.Subhalaksmi which we used to listen every morning during puja...

I am sure this would have infused the morning with spirituality to keep you going the whole day. I also love suprabhata.
