I also felt there is symbolism there but didn't think it had anything to do with ranveer since vikram and kiara are technically married. Let me re-watch it and think about it later.

When Kiara was given the plank Vikram quickly held the other side. Kiara held the side of the wife and vikram side of husband. Seems to me like the moment Kiara will think about being a couple Vikram will jump in and support her decision.
