Fashion(2008) is heralded by many as a realistic look at the fashion industry and the cost of cut-throat ambition. But for me, it was more about a flawed prototype of the model. I think the film peddles too many stereotypes and tries hard to fit the characters into tiny compartmental boxes, instead of a nuanced look at the ups and downs of a model's life.

Did you like the movie/if so, why?

Fashion was like a kiddish take on modeling if we see it now. At the time it came out it was hailed as revolutionary and eye-opening, but in hindsight it looks tacky and caricaturish.

To me it was Priyanka's track that was "filmy" amd extraordinary but even so we did see models crashing down and risinf5from their ashes.

The two other tracks were kinda "realistic" with one of the two girls being eaten by the industry and its vices and the other having to quit her career as it never took off.

The movie was alright and fit for this director. He's the one who made Heroine afterward (the movie was even more cliché with the director taking bits of real life gossips to make his movie.

I liked it a lot when I watched it the first time around 10-12 years back. It felt real and I found it path breaking at that time. I might not feel the same now but I haven't watched it again.

His best movie is Page 3 by far. After that, he just kept making the same movie again and again in different industries. Madhur is a complete hack. His every movie is about 'exposing' an industry, whether it's the film industry, modeling, the corporate world or whatever. For him, it all comes down to sex, drugs, gay people, and exploitation. I don't think he had any real sense or awareness about any of those worlds - just a dirty mind.
