Yash Chopra said he wanted to launch Aishwarya Rai first in Bollywood - Page 2

I'm pretty sure she was never offered the role of Zaara. She was offered Rani's role. Aish is beautiful but she could never do justice to the role the way Rani did.

Aish is a beauty but her acting was always average it really depended on the kind of characters she played.

Nah I think Preity was the perfect Zaara. Aish mouthing Punjabi dialogues would've been a horror lol.

Why mention this when the film is already made and has done well?

A lot of people are considered for every film. Things don't work out sometimes.

So, should I start wondering how the film would have turned out with Aishwarya as Zaara in Veer Zaara? Why? It's water under the bridge. It's unfair to Preity.

Aishwarya Rai was offered Dil To Pagal Hai** but she didn't have the dates. She was also possibly offered Darr* but that's unconfirmed.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai*** was presented by Yash Raj Films - again she rejected the role due to prior commitments - which was unheard of at the time for actresses. They would sign as many films as possible and then blame their secretaries for the mix-up (i'm looking at you LoLo) lol.

It is only Ash's GRACE and ELEGANCE that we don't even know half the films she's rejected. She never speaks about them - even when asked. She talked about KKHH with KJO during ADHM promotions. She's so professional - not everyone has that.

*Darr - the story goes that she screen tested for it after Sridevi, Madhuri, Divya, Raveena all rejected the film for various reasons, but because she was in the running for Miss India and decided she wanted some acting experience before working with Yash-ji.

**Dil To Pagal Hai - Juhi was the original choice, then Kajol, then Karisma. After they all rejected it, Yash-ji asked Ash but her diary was full. So Urmila was signed. She shot for a few days then walked out. They frantically called Shilpa Shetty but she was down South shooting a film and they couldn't reach her. Karisma's secretary rolled in and put Karisma on the sets to shoot. Karisma's other film directors were pissed off. But it all worked out in the end.

*** Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - Karan Johar has always said he used to go to Yash Chopra for advice before starting every film. When none of the girlies wanted to play Tina, Yash recommended Aishwarya Rai - but we all know she had prior commitments.

Mohabbatein - Kajol was the first choice. Karisma then rejected it, and Aishwarya ended up doing it.

Veer-Zaara - Ash was the original choice. She would have made a stunning Zaara. But today, I can't imagine anyone in that role apart from Preity - she was perfect.

This is the first time I came across this. Why would she do that? Big banner, big budget movie. Kajol probably wanted to act alongside Ajay at that time, but what exactly was Karisma doing.

I know right.

I loved Karisma-SRK chemistry/vibez in DTPH. She probably rejected it because it was a cameo/small role. And she had just signed Fiza and Zubeidaa, as well as some David Dhawan movies which were bound to get her enough commercial hit songs and column inches to stay relevant without being a sidekick to Shilpa Shetty's little sister.

I think she made the wrong decision there... if I were her I'd do the film even just for that one Humko Humise Churalo by Queen Lata ❤️

But, again, it is now hard to imagine anyone other than Aishwarya in that role. She did a fab job, and managed to somehow get nominated for a cameo - queen behaviour.

By the way, Kajol not doing the film had very little to do with Ajay. She just didn't like the role. Which is NUTS. Any other girl would literally kill/marry/hookup to do the role. Kajol was on another level of thug life.
