Aren't you getting a little too excited and jumping to wild conclusions about people without interpreting their posts correctly? Talk about arguing against fictional claims.
People here aren't just pulling things out of their butts and encouraging women to take the easier route in life... or worse, regress back to the 1800's. I wasn't even arguing for or against anything when I talked about the stress of work life balance on women.... it's the truth and I put it out there.
It's great that you think you're very progressive and the best advocate of women in the room but people are allowed to share their experiences and observations without someone coming down on them like a ton of bricks, dictating ideas they never meant to say and then passing all sorts of judgments on them to asset moral superiority of some kind. Your feminism is not the only feminism and you're not the only well-wisher of women out there.
I also never said that women should hold themselves back cuz of their gender or shouldn't set high goals and aspire to be like Harris or whoever else you named up there. Is overreaching people's intentions your forte or something?! When did I ever make that claim?!! If you found my references to matriarchal society and "women should marry other women" so offensive, you're not setting a good impression by jumping on that high horse at the slightest trigger and passing wild judgments on others either.
Acknowledging a problem (in this case, the stress caused by unrealistic expectations of a perfect family and career) is not the same as discouraging women from pursuing their goals or regressing back to the Victoria era. How are you even equating that to "denigrating" working women? Because someone brought the stress of double duty to attention?
Most of the people don't live the life of one-percenters A lot of people (mostly women) DO reduce their hours and workload to prioritize their family and some men too as a matter of fact. It's just the way it is... and explains why some women choose to focus on their family. I didn't even an opinion about housewives earlier but now that I'm sucked in this deep into it, might as well impart some.
The posts tell their own story. Some were blatantly sexist, others more subtly so. Nor were they simply stated experiences of one's own self or someone else's. They were generalizations on what women expect and are taught to expect. On how life for working women is. On how women simply can't have it all.
@Blue As for me being an advocate for women. I am one, and I will proudly proclaim it. I wish I were the best, as you somehow mind-read I believe.
@Bold. Neither Harris nor Nooyi started as a 1%-er. Both women worked darned hard to get where they are. They *aspired* to have it *all.* They succeeded. You know, the kind of future some posts in this thread said women shouldn't be taught to expect.

I am not even going to talk about the plight of the women from the lower income groups .Women by no means have arrived, let alone being empowered. Of course we are fighting and of course we are discontent. It’s unfortunate that we get ridiculed for merely asking to be respected. It is still a long way to go.
I couldn't imagine the plight faced by women of lower income groups. But I think feminists ignore the root cause of these issues, which is income disparity and financial distress. These issues cause stress in these households and results in women being mistreated.
I rarely see urban feminists pointing out these issues, let alone doing anything about it. I see them mostly being hostile towards others who have different opinions. Which is something they themselves claim to be a victim of.
Equal rights. Asking for respect. Empowerment. These things are all ego battles, not anything substantial. You have to target the root cause, which feminists won't ever do because they get propped up by the very people who harm the lower income groups.

You've missed out on all nuance of what anyone was saying based on your rants. Having it all is a complete fantasy and only inexperience can make it seem like a real possibility. Whether you choose to be a working woman or a homemaker, both are going to lose out on various things in different ways. You just have to choose what works for you and what you don't mind missing out on. Nobody is saying you shouldn't aspire to have what you want.
And guess what, Harris focused on her career, got married at 49 and never had children. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. She chose what she wanted. But it's hardly called "having it all." There are always sacrifices one way or the other and that's just the reality of the world.

Can't believe you're hung up on personal attacks when you've made so many on me that I don't even remember half of them.
@bold: More like you make up stories of your own based on what people write.
Anyways, there is a difference between saying:
"Women shouldn't have it all."
vs
"Women have an extremely hard time balancing it all."
The first statement is actively dictating that women shouldn't aspire to have a career or "have it all." <-- You're literally forcing that argument on me and flying off the handle.
The second statement is merely pointing out a flaw in this idealistic notion of "having it all" that has caused a lot of women to go into exhaustion and burnout points. It's an acknowledgment of the price women pay (mental, physical, etc) while walking that tight rope of "having it all"... and it's a tight rope.... it is!

Hey, what is this, why are you being realistic? Didn't you know that pink unicorns exist, and that they can turn into pegasus whenever they want? In fact, they should be both if you ask me. 😆
