9. Thought just occurred to me. If women shouldn't be encouraged to seek careers, why bother educating them in the hard sciences? Even the arts? Heck, why even literacy? They'll be happier not knowing any of it. Too bad those crazy feminists of old insisted on it, huh? No matter. The new gen is more enlightened. We know there is no point in fighting for equal rights because there is no such thing as even *aspiring* to have it all. We should never bother to aspire. We should be happy with our lot in life.

Keep them coming. So we feminists who don't get the new rules can finally begin to understand.

Whenever I see feminists, whether online or real life, they are always quarreling ad nauseam. I'm just confused why such empowered people are always so discontent, that's all.😆

As you said in your comment, you're always fighting for some thing or the other. If I felt so empowered, I'd be more content.😆

It's easy to write theoretically without any basis in how things really are for Indian women. Have people here seen arranged marriage ads lately? Now men demand "working women." Do you think it's because Indian men are suddenly feminists? No, they've just realized they can now get domestic workers who will also get them a paycheck.

Let people have the choice to do whatever they want to do. If Shahid and Mira want a traditional life that makes them happy, how does it matter to anyone else?

i dont think most men expect their women to be superwomen... unless its how she looks or "performs". Nothing wrong there, is there? Would anyone want to be with someone who looked like a bulldog? 😂

as for the marital ads, have you seen the ads women put out when they are looking for men? You'd think they were looking for a bank vault, not a loving husband. 😂

In reality, most couples today realize that 2 incomes are better than one. And that's something that has buy in from both. Also, if they can afford to, they hire servants to help with the chores. So no one's really working their ass off any more, or needs to. Couples eat out more often too. Thats why we have all those malls and restaurants thrive. Anecdotally we know women today can and often give hell to their guys for the slightest thing. 😂 So no way they'll do more of the chores than they want to. So lets not make up phony stuff as to how women have to be superwomen. Supermodels yes, superwomen no.😉😂

One glance at the world around should show you there's miles to go. Heck, it was only recently that the Indian supreme court told a rapist he can keep his government job if he married the victim, a minor.

As for Mira being a homemaker, she is blessed to have such a privileged life. People who are bashing her for her lifestyle are jelous souls is all i'd say.

Shahid kapoor must be certainly thinking like this behind all his politically correct PR words.

Sure shahid/mira can talk all about women's empowerment with choice to work or not.

But we can read between the lines that all he wanted was "Fresh, young, beautiful, homely and let's not forget the rate card".

It is 2021 and female foeticide is still one of the biggest problems we face. Our own parents discriminate against us. There are million subtle ways in which we get put down or put off. I am not even going to talk about the plight of the women from the lower income groups .Women by no means have arrived, let alone being empowered. Of course we are fighting and of course we are discontent. It’s unfortunate that we get ridiculed for merely asking to be respected. It is still a long way to go.

Right, under the pretext of supporting homemakers, let's now tell women who want to have it all they shouldn't want that.

Instead of pointing to women like Kamala Harris or Indra Nooyi as role models, let's now tell little girls they shouldn't aspire to that. That they'd be little hamsters going nowhere if they tried doing so.

Throw in a bit of bigotry at the end about women marrying each other because men can't possibly be expected to live up to human standards. Because women wanting equal rights is matriarchy instead of patriarchy?

Aren't you getting a little too excited and jumping to wild conclusions about people without interpreting their posts correctly? Talk about arguing against fictional claims.

People here aren't just pulling things out of their butts and encouraging women to take the easier route in life... or worse, regress back to the 1800's. I wasn't even arguing for or against anything when I talked about the stress of work life balance on women.... it's the truth and I put it out there.

It's great that you think you're very progressive and the best advocate of women in the room but people are allowed to share their experiences and observations without someone coming down on them like a ton of bricks, dictating ideas they never meant to say and then passing all sorts of judgments on them to asset moral superiority of some kind. Your feminism is not the only feminism and you're not the only well-wisher of women out there.

I also never said that women should hold themselves back cuz of their gender or shouldn't set high goals and aspire to be like Harris or whoever else you named up there. Is overreaching people's intentions your forte or something?! When did I ever make that claim?!! If you found my references to matriarchal society and "women should marry other women" so offensive, you're not setting a good impression by jumping on that high horse at the slightest trigger and passing wild judgments on others either.

Acknowledging a problem (in this case, the stress caused by unrealistic expectations of a perfect family and career) is not the same as discouraging women from pursuing their goals or regressing back to the Victoria era. How are you even equating that to "denigrating" working women? Because someone brought the stress of double duty to attention?

Most of the people don't live the life of one-percenters A lot of people (mostly women) DO reduce their hours and workload to prioritize their family and some men too as a matter of fact. It's just the way it is... and explains why some women choose to focus on their family. I didn't even an opinion about housewives earlier but now that I'm sucked in this deep into it, might as well impart some.
