Change is slowly happening in BW like they acknowledged 90’s singers in Coolie remake songs.
Hopefully, in near future, we’ll see that BW will be forced to give royalty and credit to lyricist, singers and music directors who’s sweat and blood had made the song popular among the masses.
Ashley,
Does this happen in Hollywood industry too?
Are the artists ( lyricist, singer or music director ) over there get credit and royalty for their work?
Yeah change is surely happening..the problem in our country is till people don't file lawsuits and make a big deal out of it, nothing is done.
@bold: Yes they credited everyone: lyricist, music director, singer
Basically labels are pocketing what's not theirs.
No Shweta not at all, this doesn't happen in Hollywood. Abroad the copyright law is way too strict, and they do things the legal way, I respect that a lot.
Recently British singer ZAYN released a song called tightrope and he used two lines from 'Chaudhvi Ka Chand'...for those two lines also Ravi and Shakeel Badayuni are credited! That too immediately after ZAYN's name! Look at the difference! In India, labels remake songs and give the original team's name somewhere at the bottom of the description box.
This is the reason why songwriters and singers abroad live very grand lives and own huge mansions, multiple properties, even after making maybe 10 albums only. Our music industry has had much more volume of work and artists are still struggling to make ends meet. People like Laxmikant-Pyarelal (600+ albums), Kalyanji-Anandji-Viju Shah (230+ films together), Chitragupta-Anand-Milind (around 400+ albums together), Sameer Anjaan (approx 500+ albums), Shankar-Jaikishan (approx 200 films) etc's families could be owning private islands that's the volume of work they've done!
Here's another example of how our seniors are struggling badly:
