Crazy how Hollywood portrays their own cities as perfect, but we all know that LA, NYC, London etc have poverty striken areas, much more dangerous than India.

Poverty is everywhere. India just takes it to another level. Horrific!!

English films exaggerate poverty of India like in Avengers and Slumdog millionare..they hardly show the good parts of India but these days Netflix films portray it better..yes India has such slums but America has lots of homeless people who struggle for bread and butter on daily basis..and they have slums too

Yes. I know kids in my family who visited. What sticks in thie mind: poverty, heat, mosquitoes, cows on the roads.

Didnt mind the heat much (Greece was hotter) but omg the mosquitoes and the poverty was so so scary.

The food in India is amazing though but other than that, I do not have any good memories of that place. Driving through the streets with all the poor people (and kids) on the roads, hundreds of sick people laying outside the hospital on the street omgggg I literally get goosebumps.

My hometown is in Kerala and its a beautiful place and its a delight to visit each time..full of greenery and lovely people..also decent healthcare..but many parts of India does have poverty and helpless people every country has beauty and darkness..

Poverty in the West is not the same. Poor people get food stamps and housing from govt as well as Medicaid. it's not a pleasant existence by any means but not even close to the levels in India.

This is not meant to be an East vs West argument. Plain facts. I don't want ANYone to be poor.

Yeah I heard Kerala is really pretty! I was mostly referring to my experience in Mumbai, Hyderbad and Chennai. I mean it's one thing to have pockets of poverty but like its literally all over the city, specially at the traffic lights. I used to cry for hours just remembering seeing all the poor kids begging on the streets.

Western thugs see India through their perverted colonial gaze where they want to reduce India to just poverty and caste/religion based violence. Luckily for them they are enough useful idiots/Gungadeen/Sepoys in India who will not only lap this up but also call it "harsh reality".

Exactly I was gonna say the same thing. NYC has so many shady areas like the end of highline park etc.

Yeah but I have been to NYC, L.A so many times but I have never come across these shady areas. Im sure they exist in pockets but that doesn't mean I generally feel unsafe walking on my own or I'm seeing diseased people laying on the streets or being surround by swarms of children coming and begging for money.
