Chapter 18 – Little Things
Malhar’s words resonated with Kalyani and she soon began feeling better. She realised that in all the commotion, she had failed to notice that her Aai’s life now included a rightful partner. This was exactly what she had always wanted for her Aai so the end justified the means for her. Kalyani was genuinely happy for her Aai and she thanked Malhar wholeheartedly for helping her see the light. Malhar was relieved to see her calm down.
Kalyani was also elated that Malhar now had Moksh in his life. To her, this adoption marked the end of a bitter marriage and the beginning of new phase in his life. She looked at him and asked him to tell her more about Moksh. Malhar’s description of Moksh’s cute and naughty antics filled her eyes with happy tears. Ever since she had heard of the adoption, she had a new found respect for Malhar. He then instructed her to join the rest of the family outside as they were worried about Kalyani and left from there to pick Moksh up from school. Kalyani quickly washed her face and headed out with a smile to congratulate her Aai.
As Kalyani cheerfully entered the living room, everyone was relieved that she had coped well with the new reality. She formally introduce herself to Sarthak and welcomed him into the family. She even innocently threatened him that she knew karate and that if he ever hurt her mother then she would karate-chop him. This made everyone laugh and the atmosphere in the house relaxed. Anupriya hugged Kalyani tightly and thanked the lord for protecting her daughter. Sarthak stood there smiling as he knew that it was Malhar who was the reason behind Anupriya’s smile today. Kalyani nudged her mother back and said to her, “Aai don’t you think we need to make room for one more person in this hug. I want a hug from both my parents today!!”
Sarthak was overcome with joy to hear Kalyani call him baba. He rushed to them and joined in on their hug. It was a picture perfect moment. Sarthak had realised the err of his ways long ago but today Kalyani’s love had rid his mind of all the misunderstandings, jealousy and contempt he had before. Kalyani spent the rest of the day with Sarthak and Anupriya in an attempt to get to know him better. As their conversation proceeded, she was rest assured that her Aai had married the right person.
It was around 4:30pm in the evening, Malhar had picked Moksh from his school and returned home. Both the father and son were shocked and delighted to see Kalyani waiting for them in the courtyard. As they got down from the jeep, Kalyani walked over to Moksh and introduced herself to him. She pulled his cheeks lovingly and said, “Moksh, you and I are friends from today okay!!!” and gave him some chocolates. Although Moksh knew that his mother was acting strange, he was still happy to get her attention and hugged her back immediately. Kalyani was charmed by his adorableness. Malhar stood there with tears in his eyes as he witnessed the embrace of the mother-son duo. He knew that there was still a long and difficult road ahead of them but this moment was nothing but pure joy for him.
Kalyani didn’t pay much attention to Avni as she was just introduced as Moksh’s nanny. Avni on the other hand was burning with rage as Kalyani was a threat to her. She knew that If Kalyani regained her memory then it would become a bigger problem. So she headed to the workshop where all the old memorabilia was hidden. She wanted to disturb Kalyani with the truth about her life in an attempt to hinder her recovery process. She thought that her plan was fool-proof because after learning the truth Kalyani would either die because of the shock or would hate her family for lying to her. So it was a win-win situation.
But unbeknownst to her, Malhar had kept the files and documents under the watchful eyes of his guard dog Durgaprasad. He had learnt from his previous mistake and didn’t trust Avni anymore. He was only tolerating her because of his commitment. So before she could do any harm to Kalyani, he had already arranged for a safety measure. Avni stealthily entered the workshop and began looking for photos that she could show Kalyani. Before she could even find them, Durgaprasad came out of nowhere and pounced on her. He bit her hand intensely and began barking in order to alert Malhar. Avni realised that she was done for, if she was to be caught by Malhar. So she huffed in pain and ran away from the workshop.
Malhar who rushed to the scene, noticed droplets of blood on the floor of the workshop and realised that somebody was trying to get the old documents. He concluded that it was not safe for these documents to be near the house anymore and decided to transfer them to the police station. Avni on the other hand was writhing in pain as the bite was so deep that she had to get stitches. She was cursing Malhar’s diligence and began thinking about what to do next.
