Complete package is more imp. than excellent acting skills in BW?

The way Bollywood is structured and the way its requirements are, I really think being a complete package is more important than having excellent acting skills. Acting is of course the key ingredient, but apart from Amitabh Bachchan, I think most superstars are not the best actors of their generation. People expect an actor to have a certain charm, screen presence, and crowd-pulling ability which is independent of their acting skills. Looks are of course a bonus, and very important aspect as well.

Stardom here belongs to people who have that elusive, non-definable screen presence or aura on screen. Let's look at SRK, Salman, Hrithik, Akshay and Aamir -- all of them except Salman are good actors, but not the best actors out there. People love them for different reasons, and these are intangible most of the time. This makes Bollywood volatile and unpredictable, as opposed to Hollywood which functions on more stringent standards and acting being one of them.

Do you agree with this?

I think in Gen Y, Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao are the best actors of this generation. But they are not my favourites, though I like them both.

My favourites are Deepika and Ayushmann because I think they have that elusive skillset which makes them 'complete package'. Again, a very subjective opinion, but the way Bollywood is structured, I think it's more open to this kind of interpretation where you judge someone for other factors more.

I still think DP and Ayush are good actors, but not the best. But for me, they meet the criteria of 'complete package'. Does this make sense??

Are you referring to Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgan? Well, I don't think they are the best either. They are good, but not the best. Best would probably be Akshaye Khanna among their contemporaries.

Hrithik is more of a complete package than the Khans but still not bigger than them in stardom.

I get what you are saying, but the Khans themselves are an example of packaging triumphing over acting skills. None of the 3 are excellent actors.

By package, I specified that I don't mean looks but intangible factors like screen presence, aura, etc.

Hrithik has better screen presence, more charisma, bigger aura along with better looks than Aamir. But still Aamir is a bigger Superstar than Hrithik.

hrithik can't do comedy, so I think he is a little behind the khans

Acting is more important for me.. then comes offscreen personality. I did not like Deepika before cocktail.

Same here.

For me, offscreen personality matters very little until and unless one is not completely raving mad like Kangana, then it affects me. Mostly, it is very difficult to find out what these stars are actually like. Their projected persona is not equal to their real persona, IMO.

For me, onscreen charm outweighs acting, but only by a small margin. Looks comes third.
