Would color blind casting work in India? Would we accept a black Jodhaa or a Chinese Padmavati or Rani of Jhansi? Would we even accept someone like Kalki or Tom Alter who grew up here and is speaks the language fluently and is familiar with the culture?

A lot of British and American historical movies and TV series are casting actors regardless of race. Like casting a black actor as the Queen Margaret of Anjou in Hollow Crown when the actual Queen is of French and German ancestry. Or the latest series Bridgerton on Netflix which is set during Regency (1811-1820) and has most of the members of the aristocracy played by black or East Asian actors. Detractors are accusing the producers of appropriating their culture and history. I personally find the differences between the races fascinating and color-blind casting seems a Utopian idea to reduce racial tensions.

If the characters are fascinating and the actors are talented, then yes.

It's funny how nobody has a problem with Black actors playing White characters, but the reverse would create a hue and cry.

The early Mughals are described as having "approximately even mixture of Caucasian and Mongol blood". So casting Hrithik as Akbar would not have been totally inappropriate. Amusing fact is that Babur distrusted and despised Mongols and considered himself as Turkish.

Hrithik does not look indian i mean average indian

He looks more italian or a middle east like turk guy only

Ranveer Singh looked more like khilji than an indian in movie (may be make up and dress)

Mughals were more mongols (ghengis khan clan)

Monglos look more chinese/korean than a indian/middle east person

So if you want to get a real character of babar or humayun than we must cast a north east person as babar or humayun or akbar than a hrithik/ranveer

Someone like kellie dorjie will look more mongol than hrithik and ranveer

Babar was actually a mix of mongol, turk and russian (his father and mother were from from USSR)

But yes if you cast a salim or shah jahan or dara sikoh etc they were 50% or more indian so hrithik/ranveer can do those roles

No. I only want historically accurate representation s while casting actors.

I am SICK of the new trend in western media of casting people of colour just for the sake of tokenism and for scoring brownie points among social justice warriors. 🤢🤢🤢

I don't find these kind of gimmicks or initiatives even the slightest bit praiseworthy. Its particularly infuriating when a movie or piece of work is only praised because of these things when it should be solely judged based on its quality.😵

Is there any real use to cast color people for white roles by hollywood?

As long as society there discriminates blacks there is no use

Look at how floyd was treated

No matter what they do blacks are second class citizens there

So whats use of putting color people in white roles

Have to give it out to Mukesh Chabra for casting the film so perfectly. Look at the reel and real images and you see they are spot on.
