Ok I understand why rani may have decided to take a step in the direction she did coz at that time she was in a desperate situation and her fam was unsupportive

But

Why did she continue on that path? Why couldn’t she have stopped doing that and become a model, actress or something that puts her good looks and grooming to good use ? or done something totally different...

I just didn’t understand why she tortured herself throughout the movie and her only “out” was a guy agreeing to marry her...even after she had lots of money and a house and all she continued doing what she didn’t like...😒

I guess because she was making extremely good money and you know the needs never end. First her family needed money for one thing but then they kept needing more and more money. Her sister's education, the house etc. Even in real life people get stuck in jobs they didn't plan to do long term simply because they can't take risks and quit. There are bills to pay. I doubt the scriptwriter thought about this in depth 😆 I should stop.

I didn't see or feel the things that others are saying here. To me, while watching the film, it felt real as I know many girls had and still have to go through something like this.

No one becomes an escort or prostitute or even p0rn actor because they want to. It's always a situation in life that brings them to that.

As for those saying why she couldn't get out....well, its her job and as I understood she was a steady keep for some..she wasn't just going around with every man. Since she felt her life was ruined and that was it, there was no point of stopping. Plus, the film actually shows her trying different jobs and failing at it...

I shudder to think how many actresses had to go through something similar, including Rani, as some of these girls only got into acting because of their family's financial situation.

Bold - Sunny Leone disagrees...

She became one out of choice despite having other options, loving parents, no financial crisis...

And she is not an exception... Studies and surveys shows that many actively pursue both profession, no majboori

But things might be different in India, these studies were done in western countries

I don't think so...what else is she going to say? That she was forced into it? That she had to do it? That it offered her money she couldn't refuse?

The minute she found Bollywood, she left the p0rn industry. The reason she came here was because she got fed up of working there...At that point she said she was only acting with her husband...

Laaga Chunari Mein Daag was one of my favourite Rani's movies. My opinion may come across unique but I just love the movie. The story was realistic and it still happens in India. Of course nobody becomes a prostitute by wish but they had to to earn money and fulfill house responsibilities. To those questioning why Vibhavari aka Rani's character in the movie didn't leave prostitution later on or moved on to another job, it's because she was the sole bread earner for her family and she was getting money from this so she continued.

The songs, acting of Rani and Konkana and others, execution and music Everything was lovely About this movie. I even loved the ending. Rani's character deserves happy ending and that's what she got in the end along with acceptance!! From all.❤️❤️

I agree...I actually liked the ending and Abhi's reaction that he already knew instead of the usual 'OMG I am so shocked and appalled!'.

Thanks. That was quite a mature ending to be honest. She accepted his proposal only when she knew that he knows about her profession and has no issues with her being a prostitute. Acceptance is the key here. 😊

It's a candy coated remake of Mumtaz's Aaina (1977). Mumtaz did a better job of showing the character's hopelessness at the endless demands made on her and her ruthlessness. She did a great job confronting her ex-lover Rajesh Khanna who wasn't there for her. She had to deal with her younger sister's fiance who was one of her past clients, when the latter showed signs of withdrawing from the marriage. When the young man slapped her for "shaming" her orthodox Brahmin family she slaps him back and taunts him that he's equally at fault for soliciting her services. She even asked her mother why she chose to have so many children when they couldn't afford to take care of them. The ending is slightly different as Mumtaz's family kicks her out after knowing the truth while Rani's family accepts her. Plus Mumtaz's mother never knew the truth and knowingly "exploited" her daughter like Jaya Bachchan did with Rani.

This lyric and "Malmal ke kurte pe chhint laal laal" remind me of menstruation.
