1. Britishers weren't in awe of Gandhiji in 1918.

2. He returned to India in 1915 and these were his initial years. Non Cooperation and Civil Disobedience Movements are yet to happen which actually got him a big following.

3. He shaved his head in 1921 during his South Indian trip and started using Khaadi to relate to the poor people.

4. He was just 49 years old in 1918.

5. A British School would never be allowed to invite Gandhiji and allow him to kind of promote the propoganda to overthrow the British rule.

6. Gandhiji held a view that women shouldn't come out and indulge in freedom fights.

7. He wanted women to be educated only because, if a women is educated the kids will have an educated mother, not for anything else. He believed women were made to look after house and children.

8. They completely ignored the existance of Raja Ram Mohan Roy (who died in late 1833) who did considerable work against Sati Practice, whereas he should have been remembered by Aniruddh who married a girl and committed to her for lifetime to save her from Sati.

9. Makers are acting as if MKG had no job but to hover around Calcutta and West Bengal and there existed no other freedom fighters who were authentic Bengalis.

Cultural:

1. No one wears typical South Indian clothes everyday, that too in Calcutta no matter how religiously South Indian you are.

2. The so called South Indian boy, let alone say Tamizh, cannot even pronounce Tamil properly.

3. Ille ille is not the only thing in tamil language as far as I know (its not my mother tongue still I understand it)

Nonsense.

I agree with all your points and even I wondered given it is 1901, how did Anirudh idolize Gandhiji? He was not known so widely back then. Coming to historical inaccuracies, there are so many, that I have learned to simply take it all with a pinch of salt 😆

It is 1918 in the show. And Gandhiji returned in 1915 and led 3 major movements in three parts of the country but still he wasn't in the stage to be called "The greatest man alive."

Little inaccuracies are fine, its normal but they are completely messing up Modern Indian History which is as clear as crystal and is taught in High School.

Especially when they're making a show on pre independent era, they should have an efficient research team but looks like their team hasn't even read basic Indian History.

They should have obviously mention the name of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, a BENGALI too, who actively stood against Sati Pratha and was the main person who helped in eradication of this Social Evil, especially when it is based on how a man saves a child from getting SATI.

About other Bengali Freedom Fighters they should have mentioned Khundiram Bose, Binoy Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta, Chittaranjan Das apart from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, in the show, if not today I hope atleast in future they do and what about the Bengali Female Freedom Fighters Gandhi Buri, Matangini Hazra, Bina Das? As an woman empowering show they should be mentioned too.

The History goof up is huge especially with Gandhi Ji.

Cultural Mess Up? Leave ITV to show all south Indian men in Lungi and vibhuti on forehead, they show South Indian only eats dosa, idli, vada, sambar and, as a holiday treat, rasam and rice. That's plain weird. Just like Bengalis don't have Machher Jhol Bhaat all the time most South Indians don't only eat Dosa and Idli! Also for them all South Indians are Tamilians that's so sad and pathetic in reality. 😵

Nonsense.

Underlined- Sati was banned in Bengal Sati Regulation 1829. It would have been good of they atleast mentioned it.

Pink- Exactly! Which is sad because Bengal was one of the hotspots for various social and cultural movements(Especially abolition of Sati, widow remarriage, and education for girls).

Regarding the cultural details

Saudamini's sarees are not appropriate for that era.

Also they made a mess of the Bengali culture

Bold-The most important thing. They are making a show in 20th century Bengal about women empowerment, female education, and they did not even mention Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Like seriously. He was one of the most important people in fighting for emancipation of women.

I absolutely second with you in this matter. I dunno why creators have to distort history. They kind twist the story as per their convenience to which will go well with the plot. 😏

And regarding Raja Rammohan Roy, even i exactly felt the same thing. I had actually thought Anirudh will bring his name into reference towards Sati pratha but i was (I still am 😔) disappointed that there's no such scene yet.

Shows like Barrister babu which is built on foundation of such a strong story should actually take care of such loopholes.

The makers could have refrained from overindulging in their reverence to Gandhi. Yes. It is not just about being over the too but about being historically inaccurate. But was it unexpected? Did we get hit by a metaphorical bus today? I would say no. We all knew it was coming. He looks older than he should be, well known than he actually was and wiser than he ought to be given credit for as he was at that time. True. Using Raja Ram Mohun Roy or Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar as icons would have been more accurate and to the point. But honestly how many daily soap viewers know fully about them? How many would be sitting in front of their TV and go like ," yes, this is so impactful". Not many right? Gandhi on the other hand is a name we know since our memory started developing. His ideals and the idea of him as an icon is more appealing and understandable to the common mass that sits glued to their screens. Educated and well read people know him and his life and find time to outrage at this depiction of a part of our history. Good. As one should. But I think it would be a better thing to let the makers know what they are doing wrong.

If I may ask. Apart from the newspaper clippings in the show do.we know when actually the show is set at. Is it really 1918/19? If it's a bit later then maybe they still can warrant benefit of doubt and slap on their hand for this mistake.

I totally agree with sujz about the south Indian thing. You wanna do a south Indian bit atleast hire a south Indian kid who knows his stuff (taàmil? Really?! ). This was lame and truly enhancing the stereo type. I am a true malayalee who has lived in Arunachal, Jaipur and Delhi throughout my life and I can tell ya I don't just utter 'ille". What's even?! And I can speak hindi better than the north Indian gents and ladies and speak farratedar malayalam as well. What's with the stereotyping. Not forgiving BB for that.

Makers ko sapne mei concept aya aur unhone bana diya. History aur facts ke bare mei sochna bhul gaye.

Gandhi did not start his freedom struggle until much much later on in his timeline after coming to India after he was admitted into INC in 1921. Britishers NEVER admired/respected any Indian, forget a man known to fight for human rights (his life in SA).

The only fact they got right was that Gandhi was more intent on co-existing with Britishers. He DIDNOT want to oust them. At least not immediately. In fact, even when India was fighting full fledged for freedom, he was open to negotiations while the other freedom fighters like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose wanted purna Swaraj (complete independence).

Exactly I was about to point it out. The only true thing was his idea of co existence with the British. Dude supported Indians going to WW1 for their sake. Smh so hard.
