Why the kissing scene in Dhoom 2 caused so much controversy?

The famous kissing 💋 scene of Hrithik and Aishwarya in Dhoom 2, which became very controversial at the time of release, as in 2006, kissing was reserved for Emraan Hashmi and other B-grade films only. A-listers didn't use to do such acts as it was considered cheap.

Although this wasn't the first kissing scene in a mainstream film. Just 10 years ago before Dhoom 2, Raja Hindustani had the longest kissing scene in history of Bollywood, and it was only that kiss which made that crap film an All Time Blockbuster.

I was too young to remember any controversy which happened because of the kissing scene in Raja Hindustani. I don't find any old articles on the internet which mentions audience outraging over the kissing scene between Aamir and Karisma.

But I do remember the news of Hrithik and Aishwarya's kissing scene in Dhoom 2 making the front page headlines on newspapers those days. Aishwarya got legal notices and many people condemned them, especially her for being a bad role model for young girls.

Things got so out of hand that YRF had to cut out that kissing scene from the movie, although that was also because of pressure from the Bachchan family.

So what made the kissing in Dhoom 2 so controversial?

Did people also outraged the same way on the kissing scene in Raja Hindustani?

If not then why?

Today no clip of that kissing scene in Dhoom 2 is available anywhere.

It's in the movie at 2 hours 8 mins. At least it is on US. Amazon Prime and was on Netflix when they had the film.

Luckily for the scene Hrithik is a very good screen kisser since he has to do all the work. Ash just sits there with a slightly open mouth.

Okay, I just checked on Amazon Prime and yes, the scene is there. But few weeks ago I saw the film on television and the scene was edited out.

So I suppose the uncut version is only available on OTT platforms. The theatrical and television version doesn't have it.

In fact even Bobby which was released in the 70s had a brief kiss scene 😂

This was certainly not the first ever kissing scene in an A-grade movie or anything... it was just hype tbh..

Leave kissing, Raj Kapoor showed Mandakini topless in Ram Teri Ganga Maili and censor board even passed that with UA certificate.

Perhaps the Bachansss pulled a few strings and had it removed since it ruffled their feathers 🤔

I heard they were upset with the kissing scene too. Ridiculous when Amitabh Bachan had no qualms kissing Jiya Khan in Nishabd. Now that had me dowsing my eyes with holy water 🙃

There was a lawyer who filed a case against it, saying, it effected him and his kids, as he took his kids to watch the movie with him. It caused a ruckus, because YRF depended on Hrithik's kid friendly image(because of Krish franchise) which was the reason why Dhoom 2 was twice as big as Dhoom one, because of pulling in family audience. That kiss made many people back away from watching it.

Also kiss scenes in Indian television, do get cut out. It is not an uncommon practice.

I think was mostly fake hype created by producers themselves to promote the film... some may have been genuine though because Aish had never done such scenes before...

But yeah 70-90% fake lmao

Don't know why aishwarya did this scene ! Absolute waste.
