...that art movies and non-commercial movies should be released directly on OTT? I mean, I really don't get that logic.
For example, October someone said should have been released on OTT as it's not a movie for the masses. But most people who watched it loved October.
I think masala and offbeat can co-exist in theatres. Sure, maybe an offbeat movie won't rake in the numbers that masala movies would. But isn't it too presumptuous to claim that a certain type of movie should not be released in the theatres at all? Even if a small section of the audience enjoys it what's wrong?
I firmly believe numbers don't define quality of a film. October was a much better film than Judwaa 2 according to WOM and critics, and not only that, some people really love the non masala films too.
All movies don't need to be 300crr grosser. If everyone follows box office logic then there wouldn't have been gems like Satyajit Ray or Guru Dutt who are legends and still alive globally because of their work while no one will remember Rohit Shetty or Flying Jatt director (whatever Remo his name is) in the next generation in India itself. As I said there is audience for both kind of movies and they will co-exist forever.
Feel free to discuss.
