He does say some racist things at the end, and he had some pretty racist family members...
He wasn't a nice guy for sure, but that doesn't justify forced marriage in any way whatsoever

I was actually thinking of making a thread on this jus the other day!
Yes! The movie is definitely problematic. What Jaz's father did to her was absolutely horrible! Lying to your daughter and forcing her to get married to some village guy she has barely met??!!🤢
Namaste London doesn't get much heat because people mainly talk about how good Akki-kat's chemistry was and how beautiful Kat looked in it.
But Akki’s character never forced her for anything, it was completely her decision at the end
He wasn't the problem, her parents (especially the dad) were.
He was a victim of their nonsense too, he could have happily married a girl who genuinely liked him and had one or two things in common with him (besides his race) if it wasn't for them.

Me too... she just wanted to fit in in the society she lived in... what is so wrong with that?
And her parents fell so very low by fooling her into going to India for "sightseeing" and then forcing her into marriage with a stranger 🤢
Expecting her to make the most of a forced marriage is inhumane. It tried to glorify it... More often than not, the spouse one gets in a forced marriage is abusive and the person forced into marriage becomes distraught

Yeah that is true, Kat did look beautiful in this film...
But it's actually one of the most sickeningly regressive films in recent times imo. I think most Indians just got carried away with that one speech and thought the movie was all about patriotism/anti racism

Exactly... she was made vulnerable by being brought to a foreign land where she knew no one but her parents, lied to, and deceived into a forced marriage with a literal stranger...
No offence but is some desis' resentment towards those of us settled abroad so deep that they are unable to see this is completely wrong??
And why is forced marriage regarded as Indian culture?? Literally all religions of India, and most importantly the Indian law are very much against it.
And yes, I agree completely that a guy who in 21st century India, despite being reasonably educated agreed to marry a stranger who he has zero in common with just to go to U.K. is more likely to be a Kuljeet than an Arjun! The idea that such a guy (who had a pretty conservative upbringing too) would be an angel (like Arjun was shown to be) who didn't mind being deceived by this whole family in a way and happily allowed Jazz to leave him for the gora was ridiculous...
But at the same time not even one line from Arjun to Jazz's dad saying he was wrong to force her to marry him, which has caused so much misery for him and Jazz... (which would have honestly made the movie a lot better)
The writer was really bending over backwards to prove Jazz's dad's whole standpoint correct, it was so obvious 😵

Agreed .. the way people in Jazz’s life criticised her lifestyle and used to preach about so called culture like wtf !! She did nothing wrong but lived her life on her own terms .. and ending of the movie creeped me out like why should jazz leave her life and career behind and settle down somewhere else ?! Why couldn’t they show Arjun settling down in London ...
Lol in reality Arjun would probably be horrified if Jazz suggested they should both go back to India 😆
He'd be like- Itna sab kuch jhelne ke baad citizenship bhi nahi milega?? 😭

LMAO 🤣
Btw the gora was hot. I'd have married him in a heartbeat.

That looked unnatural and it ended up justifying her father's bone-headedness and regressive mentality. It vindicates his decision in the end.
The movie is made from a typical chauvinistic Indian POV: wE cAnNoT leT GoRaS TaKe oUr WoMeN
Yeah plus the movie will legit have you believe Jazz's family are the only Indian family settled in the U.K. 😕
Like no Indian female friends for Jazz, and no like minded British Indian suitors either 😕🤔
I guess that would have made her no longer look like such an oddity for being Indian but westernised.
Malhotra family's only desi friends are that one Pakistani family, who's son is apparently evil because he's irreligious and helped Jazz escape her forced marriage

. Bashing a girl for drinking/smoking (not because it's bad for her health), but just because she's a girl
. A girl wanting to move out of her parents' house without marriage is wrong
. A girl becoming "westernised" (for no reason other than growing up in the west) is wrong
. Then worst of all, justifying the acts of parents who forcibly get their daughters married off to strangers without their consent, and showing girls that use legal help to escape such situations as wrong
. Somehow trying to wrap their regressive fears about girls in the west as patriotism for India
All of this ..
Ending literally justified forced marriage .. jazz’s dad was so delusional and brainwashed
