Madhuri or Deepika: The better actress?

I may be in the minority here but I think Deepika.

I can't imagine Madhuri doing a Veronica, or a Piku, or a Meenamma. Whereas look at most of the roles Madhuri played in her heyday (except Channdramukhi), all of them could be played just as well or better by Deepika...

I feel Madhuri benefited maximum from the trend of masala films from mid 80s to mid 90s which were repetitive and simplistic, so great acting was not usually required from heroines... they just needed to look pretty and dance (which she was very good at tbf).

You shouldn't be in minority. For Kajol, it can still be debated but in no way is Madhuri better than Deepika in acting. People are definitely being nostalgic if they think of Madhuri as a great actress.

Exactly! Madhuri was average/above average maybe in most roles, she was only really good in Devdas and Lajja...

And she was (and still is) pretty tbf but not as stunningly beautiful as she is made out to be either imo... (can you believe some people say she looks better than Aishwarya 😶🙃). Let alone Aish even Poonam Dhillon, Sonali Bendre, Preity Zinta looked way more beautiful than MD in their primes...

I don’t hate Madhuri or anything (she is pretty, dances very well and can be good in certain roles) but she is seriously overrated

Madhuri doesn't know the A of acting. Nostalgia can be a seductive liar though.

Unfair comparison, but undoubtedly it's Madhuri.

Besides, they are two very different actresses from two different eras, with different fortes and different approaches/styles. So, the comparison is unfair.

We can't see Madhuri ever doing a Veronica from Cocktail, simply because Cocktail couldn't have existed in the 90s.

Had Madhuri been a 2000 or 2010s heroine with all the opportunities/grooming/roles that actresses today have..... she'd practically be eating alive all these Alias & Kareenas & Katrinas with her talent, beauty & dancing capabilities.

Also, Madhuri >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Deepika in any kind of dance (Indian-classical, Bollywood, Western etc) any day.
Can you imagine Deepika ever doing a Chane Ke Khait Main or Kay Sera Sera?
